IT is a simple app you can download on your smartphone. Online calories burn calculators are also available which gives you perfect amount. I use a app for this. Just i fixed my current weight and my height. Now after waking i just put time in that, it is showing me exact calories i burned.

I have a heart rate monitor that I wear. SP will also estimate it for you but I like my monitor. It was about $50 at costco a few years ago.

My problem is working out to tapes that I have at home like Richard Simmons and the Silver Foxes (50:45) or Leslie Sansone walking 1-5 miles and can't figure out how many calories you burn? Does anyone know how to figure this out?

What works for me? Zumba 3 times a week, kettlebells and free weights, bands, balls, rowing, stationary biking and recumbent eliptical. I do the cario work one day and weights the next, but I mix up the weight routine so it doesn't become a routine. I put my body into confusion so it doesn't get into a rut! Having hypothyroidism doesn't help anything, but careful, careful calories cutting and discipline, dedication and determination are all part of the equation. Sometimes I do all the above at my local Y, and then sometimes I double up on days when I still have some energy to do some in the evening at home. Lots of DVDs of various kinds from Zumba, Turbo Fire, Hip Hop Abs, Dance, Kettlebells, etc but if I do double one day, I rest the next. That's important--rest. And water. So much to think about!!! Just keep moving. It'll work out in the end.

I am restricting carbs, but since I just started it's hard to say what effect that will have on my weight loss. I did just spend an hour in the pool- 30 minutes jogging and 30 swimming.

For me, it's mostly about the carbs when it comes to weight.

As for exercise, a kettlebell works my body most effectively. But I don't enjoy it very much.

I went to Wal-Mart today, but forgot to make a list and didn't even look at the bands. I want to buy some to keep at my office. Many days, I will sit at my desk for hours at a time without moving at all. I want to take short breaks and work in some fitness while I"m at it!

I don't mix it up too much. I hike, swim or do elliptical (although I haven't done much of anything lately, which is why I regained the weight I lost in the first place.) It works fine as long as I continue to do it. I think that would probably be the advantage I'd find in doing a variety of things; I might not get bored and give up.

I'm getting into the love stage because I'm seeing results AND I feel better AND I love competing with myself. I do aerobics workouts from youtube, walk, jog, swim, dance and hike. I get bored if I don't vary it enough and if I'm not moving fast enough...which is why I'm working on being able to RUN. I'm three months into being really serious about this and I've lost a lot of my paunch and am seeing even more muscle in my already very muscular legs (I put it on easily and I have always walked everywhere and loved dancing).

I put myself through dumb little changes in my routine on the machines I work out on. I'll change intervals in incline or speed; then, I'll change time spent on different machines and hop from one to another. These all help the time pass faster for me. For me, exercise has to be part of my daily habit for me to feel better and lose weight. If I don't exercise, I can't lose weight.

Out of all the workouts I have done, nothing beats the calorie burn and fitness gained from running. And I run SLOW. I don't even really like it. But it's "easy" in the sense that it's not complicated, takes no equipment except a pair of shoes, and it saves me time because I do it right out my front door. I think most exercises work if you do them correctly, regularly, and push it now and then, but for me, running is the best exercise for weight loss.

Workout is not a thing you get immediate results. It took time and efforts also continuity in workout sessions.
Walking is a best exercise and highly recommend to diabetic person. Walking for 30 min is good to health. It burn your fat. Continue this for next three months, you will defiantly gets its positive results.
Along with this, have a proper diet and supplements which will encourage your to exercise and you will get quicker results.

Swimming a mile 3-4 days a week has totally changed the shape of my body.

My response is: I don't think I am ever gonna love it! Fortunately, I have the type of personality that hates to give up, so if I ever get into the routine, I just keep on keeping on. Some days, blah! Other days I don't mind a bit. And if I go ahead and do it first thing in the morning, I always am like James Brown...I FEEL GOOD!!!! emoticon

My response to exercise is to keep at it. Trying new things....I went to the Y to try Zumba. I wasn't really good at it but I did stay with the group as long as I could. The goal is to get healthier so you don't have to lose my ability to move and walk around. emoticon

Since dedicating myself to strength training at the start of this year, I have noticed a huge difference in my body. My shoulders, back, abs, butt...all of it is solid. Under 40 extra pounds, sure, but that is melting away nicely right now. When I'm out walking, I can actually put my hands on my sides and FEEL my core muscles doing their thing; it's pretty wild. I'm up to 2 minutes and 5 seconds on my plank, and nothing pleases me more.

I love cardio (walking, elliptical and stationary bike mostly), and I keep at it, but I know the real work of reshaping my body is being done with the weights. AND a steady calorie deficit, of course.

For the first time in my life, I am feeling the results of building muscles (using resistance bands). I love how my body feels like every muscle in my body is participating when I go for a walk. I notice I'm able to do things like picking berries, household chores, much easier and with more endurance.

I do cardio/kickboxing every other day, and that seems to contribute significantly to my energy level and breathing. I know my body is slowly changing, but my own eyes are sometimes an inaccurate judge! I feel more successful when I focus on how I feel, and when I make my goals about activity instead of a size, weight, or appearance goal.

This is a very good string. Lately, nothing seems to work for me. Cardio, HIIT, strength are not taking off the pounds. I have a doctor's appointment today and will make sure she orders a thyroid test because I am sluggish and tired a lot.

Lifting very heavy weights, often. A few cardio sessions. Staying active throughout the day. The weight training helps build muscle and in addition to fat loss gave my body a firm and toned look. The cardio sessions and staying active just allows me to not have to eat like a bird to lose weight.

Most importantly it comes down to creating calorie deficit if fat-loss is your goal. The only way fat is lost is if you're consistently eating less than your total daily energy expenditure. So if you're not seeing results you're either a) not challenging your body enough to build muscle or b) eating poorly and not watching your calorie intake. There is also the possibility you simply are not giving it enough time or lack consistency.

Take your focus off the Marshmallow.

"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. It doesn't happen, what does happen is you get results. Lifting Barbie weights does nothing but waste time.

when you're doing long, intense cardio sessions, you need to make sure you take in enough calories to fuel your body or you MR will slow down to conserve energy because there isn't enough fuel.

I was walking (not all that fast) every day for 30 minutes on my treadmill after back surgery. And not losing a pound. Not even feeling that much energy boost.

Then I saw an ad in Prevention magazine where Jillian Michaels said that working out at a slow speed on a super-high incline on a treadmill burns a gazillion more calories. So I tried it--zipped my incline as high as it would go and DAY-AM...it was HARD! I felt that burn.

So now I incline my treadmill for at least 20-30 minutes per workout--and I workout FAST & hard for 60 minutes everyday (followed by 30 minutes on my exercise bike, weight lifting and stretching!)....

And now I've lost 33 lbs in 15 weeks! 1 more pound to my goal weight & I FEEL fantastic--and at a size 4 again, I know I LOOK pretty damn good too. Makes me feel on top of the world--and all thanks to daily exercise. :)

It Is What It Is.... :)

I'm on my 2nd round of doing a full cycle of Focus T25 and I'm actually noticing more and better results. I also incorporated more ST in with it because I like that extra intensity from that. I've noticed it more with these short intense workouts and I am more driven to do it and push harder for a short amount of time vs longer.

Doing 10 minutes a day has really done it for me. On the days that I absolutely don't want to, I can just do 10 minutes of yoga and 90% of the time I go on a do a full workout. Same thing with walking. A quick walk around the block turns into 3 miles so quickly! I also have varying types of workouts depending on how I feel. A tough, blood pumping, intense workout for anxiety and can take on anything, and then some lower key ones to just do something, anything. Setting a streak has also helped. Apparently I want to keep up my streak more than I want an extra 10 minutes to do whatever. :)

Thunder up!

My body doesn't seem to hang onto weight unless I am eating poorly. Although I have noticed in the past that elliptical and stairclimbers don't work well for me, but aerobic (HIIT) and running works well! Well, and strength training.

I've found that my body responds better to certain types of exercise. I've done high intensity interval training, step aerobics, weight training, etc. With the serious, 40-60 min cardio routines, my body just gets tired and holds onto weight like crazy. Recently, I've started Piyo, which is like non-stop yoga/pilates, and my body has let go of inches within the first few sessions. It's not high impact but it is intense at times. I'm adding some interval jogging on top of that to increase my cardio burn, but this is the first kind of exercise that I'm seeing those results you hear about on TV.

What does it for you?

Potter
