I kinda suspected you don't do lower body strength training, because good leg exercises like squats and deadlifts are excellent core exercises too, often eliminating the need for additional ab work. Cycling is more for endurance than strength. Most cyclists discover this when they find they cannot walk the day after doing squats for the first time. I would add some squats & DLs - but only 1 set each the first day, to minimize soreness. Check Youtube for instructional vids.

Not necessarily. The upper portion of the abs can work a little harder on certain exercises like crunches, so that might explain the soreness there. But the lower portion still got a workout, even if you don't feel soreness after.

I've started to actually work my abs with Coach Nicole's 15 min abs workout. I feel some soreness in the lower portion, but mostly its in the muscles right where my ribs meet. They're really sore, tender to the touch. I'm just wondering if that because they're the weakest. I had a kid 3yrs ago and I haven't worked my abs at all, so I know that my core is very weak. I'm just wondering if the muscles near my ribs should be this sore? Any answers are appreciated! Thanks.
