I have one sitting in my garage that my friend gave me. I just havent gotten around to riding it. I will try this weekend with my heartrate moniter and see how the calorie burn is.

I saw someone in my neighborhood riding one of these in the park. I think it looks like an awful lot of fun and wouldn't mind having one.

Could a person burn 500-600 calories ? I'd say they're comparing the burn to being on an elliptical or maybe even roller skating. If you were to continuously ride the bike for a full 60minutes at a moderate pace, I would figure 400-500 to be more reasonable.

Calorie burns are just estimates. We could burn more. We could burn less. The benefits of regular exercise go far beyond burning X calories in Y time. Doing something you really enjoy on a regular basis can enhance your well being as well as boost your immune system. It could help you live a longer happier and healthier life.

If it gets you out and moving around on a consistent basis, sounds like it's worth the money.

I think it is just another overpriced and over hyped fitness gimmick. The calorie count is inflated in my opinion. Then again how can you trust advertising which includes the following statement "animal-free leather hand grips", isn't leather tanned animal hide by definition?


It is called WORK-ing out for a reason.

I said getting fit was simple, I did not say it was easy.

Cardio burns calories, strength work burns fat.

Eat well to lose weight, exercise to get fit

You can not build a six pack using twelve packs

I had never heard of it before, but I checked out the website, and from what I could tell in the video, it looks like it's probably less of a calorie burner than cycling, so I'd say that calorie burning estimate seems too high. The actual numbers will depend on several things (particularly your weight and speed), but I would burn a bit less than 500 calories in an hour of cycling at a moderate pace.

Edited to add that if you think the Trikke would be fun and something you can do, then go for it! Even if the manufacturer's calorie burn is inflated, it's still more than sitting on the sofa. :)

I'd never heard of this but it looks interesting. And I can't say if the calorie burn is reasonable or not. I do know that calorie burn is individually dependent and based on factors like size, gender, age, and how hard you're actually working.

Has anyone ever used one of these? http://www.trikke.com/ I am learning to ride one, with a friend who bought herself one. I'm going to get one as well. Once we get the hang of keeping them going I think they will be great fun, sensible transportation, and a good workout. I can't ride a bike because my knees don't bend far enough; but I can do this. The manufacturer makes claims of users burning 500 - 650 calories per hour. Does that seem reasonable?
