I have multiple other issues other than heart problems and headaches lol. I suffer from anxiety and depression. I've been on medication for all of them but I stopped taking the medication when I found out I was pregnant four years ago. My doctor never put me back on medication and hasn't seemed worried about my heart since. He seems more worried about my anxiety since I tend to have panic attacks when I get really really badly stressed. I went to a heart specialist and they could never figure out why my heart the way it did and just told me not to drink caffeine. But when I told them that I couldn't do that they said to just make sure I paced myself.
I don't know. My doctor doesn't seem worried about it anymore and i just told about the heart issues incase someone had went through something similar or could tell me if it was normal or if I did need to talk to a doctor.
A year ago I asked the doctor about diet pills and he said he didn't recommend them and to just diet and exercise but didn't specify anything in particular. I guess I will call him tomorrow and see if he has any further input.
The previous posters have given you some good advice. Normally I would say that target heart rate is just an average calculation, so using another method like the Talk Test or Rate of Perceived Exertion can be a better way to measure the intensity of your workout. But since you have a history of heart issues, this is definitely a question for your doctor.

I noticed on another post you mentioned experiencing migraines that are interfering with your workouts, I would be concerned that your high heart rate and headaches could be symptoms of something more serious. Please check in with your doctor.

I felt fine other than being out of breath and heart beating hard as you would expect. So am I pushing myself too hard or should this be ok? "
NO way anyone here can tell you if that it is okay... you really DO need to check with you doctor!

You know how cardio machines always have a warning along the lines of, "Consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program?" This is why, *especially* since you mentioned you have a history of heart problems.
Weight loss is mostly about what you eat anyway so I'd focus on that and wait to start exercising until you get your doctor's ok.
Also, since running is hard on the body, it's generally not recommended to start a running program until you have 2-3 months of being able to walk briskly for 30 mins.

Ok so I have had heart problems in the past where my heart was beating irregular and too fast. Had a heart murmur. Blah blah. This was of course 8 years ago and I haven't went back to the doctor over it since it no longer bothers me as long as I keep my caffeine intake to 1-2 cups of coffee a day. However now that I have started exercising more I have noticed that when my heart rate picks up I back off. I finally went and bought a watch with a heart rate monitor so I could check it while working out to make sure I didn't over do it. (Not that I really know what over doing it would be like). I still suck at cardio. I mean you can really tell I haven't done much cardio because I can barely go a mile. But I am wanting to teach myself to jog. So I have forced myself to jog for a few seconds then back off to catch my breath. (Smokers lungs sucks.)

I haven't talked to my doctor yet since he takes hours to see. So I was going to check here first.
