If you read the articles on SP it says that you can't target where the fat is as the body makes up it's own mind.

The face is normal where most comes off first but not with everyone.

How can you know that you can't unless you have tried and failed.

"flat belly don't we all want that! plank pose is a great way to help the belly hold 3x's 30 seconds each"

Flat out wrong. Planks will NOT get rid of fat, which is what the OP is looking to do.

cardio and weight training there is no value to spot training. You have abs under the fat and once that is uncovered you will see them

After having my children I did everything I could, lost all the baby weight and more, weight trained, worked out night and day to no avail. I could not get rid of my belly pouch. When I mentioned it to my doctor, she confirmed what I knew in my heart but wasn't willing to believe. I needed a tummy tuck. Some of us tear and stretch the abdominal wall just too much for it to spring back to its original shape. I never did get the tummy tuck (wish I had) but found that when I put on a bit of weight it was less noticeable, sort of blended in with the rest of the fat. But when I lose the weight it comes right back and no amount of training will fix it. I have a 4-pack upper abs but the lower part still is a pouch. At my age I look pretty darn good, but I have never been able to get rid of the lower belly.

There are many who say different and specific exercises will help flatten the belly, but you must eat healthy foods, drink lots of water, exercise at least 3x a week, get enough rest and sleep to have an overall effect of losing belly fat and body weight. Your muscles can become firmer, but the fat on top has to be lost through a total body exercise program. It will come off in time. Keep at it.

Really and truly, in spite of those who will continue to offer suggestions: There are none. Why? When you exercise a muscle, yes, that burns calories. But it doesn't draw that energy from the fat around the muscle. It pulls it from the bloodstream. Where the bloodstream gets it is largely determined by genetics; if you tend to hold weight in your belly, the odds are that will be the last place to lose the fat.

So no, planks, situps, leg lifts, squats, running, sitting... none of these will flatten your belly.

Only time, and overall fat loss will do that. And for most of us, we will ALWAYS have some belly fat; women are actually SUPPOSED to have a little! It's how we're made.

Isn't motherhood grand? OK, well, it is - because the kid(s) are awesome. But, I look back on my pre-baby self and wish I could reverse time and slap myself for ever looking in the mirror and thinking, "ugh, I need to lose weight." If I only knew! (I was a comfortably healthy weight prior to baby.)

As others said, calorie deficit for general fat reduction, and ab/core exercise to ton muscles beneath are your best bet. Keep your tummy skin hydrated as you lose weight - just like you did when you were preggers in the hopes of avoiding stretch marks - and that can supposedly encourage the skin to regain as much elasticity as possible.

Should all those fail, though, keeping a local reputable plastic surgeon in business is good for the economy! I'm still uncertain if that's the road I've got to go, so don't think you're alone in the "seriously, belly, you used to be flat!" frustration.

"is there anything I can do to target that area"

You can target the muscles UNDERNEATH but not that fat and skin.
Fat will reduce overall as you lose weight.
Skin will probably require surgery.

My wife had an incredibly tight core, great abs. Then she had two children. Although she lost the weight and exercised. She was not happy with what she thought was fat. I told her it was just loose skin, her doctor confirmed and because she had great muscles under that flap she was a good candidate for a tummy tuck. If it is just skin then that may be an option or you can just embrace that fact that the flap will be there as a sign of mother hood.

Weight is the result of what you have been doing for the past week.

Interesting though on too much cardio. I do play tennis about 2-3 a day, maybe that is the cause? I can't give it up though :P I have been weight training now for almost a year with a trainer. Definitely helped me tone up but nowhere close to where I would look in the mirror and think it is good enough...

Unfortunately you can't target fat-loss. Keep doing full body weight training, it will help but keep your expectations realistic. It's unlikely, unless blessed with great genetics... that you will have your post baby-tummy back. I have heard too much cardio can be bad because it increases cortisol (stress hormone) which can contribute to stubborn belly fat. As the PP suggested, try short HIIT sessions instead. 30 mins, 3x a week.

"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. It doesn't happen, what does happen is you get results. Lifting Barbie weights does nothing but waste time.

Hi Guys, so I have lost a lot of weight and am weight training along with playing tennis but the belly from having two kids and losing weight is sort of hanging, is there anything I can do to target that area or is it impossible to get rid of it?
