While it is true that you will burn calories, the carbs will be turned into glucose, and be burned off first, then glycogen, then alcohol, and finally fat. Protein is sent to build muscle, and is rarely used as fuel.
The time to be concerned about carbs is before you eat them though. If you overeat on carbs, say 300 grams, your body is going to burn that till you run out of glucose/glycogen. It's why runner's carb load.
So if I had a big bowl of pasta, it will be converted to glucose, and burned immediately, or stored as glycogen, and if more than can be stored in the muscles, it will be stored as bodyfat. So technically, one would be burning the glucose from the carbs, or basically burning off what the carbs were converted to.
However that is set by the body, so once you eat the food, there is no way to pick that you want to burn carbs. Creating a caloric deficit is still necessary to lose weight. After you eat your food, it is out of your hands. If you overate, go do some exercise.

Zorbs is correct that there are 4 calories in each gram of carbs. It doesn't really matter how much of those calories burned comes from carbs. What matters when it comes to weight loss is how many total calories you're burning vs. how many you're consuming- not where they come from. So if you focus on total calories burned, challenging yourself with each workout, that's what is important.

I agree with the other posters - you burn calories not carbs, and there are 4 calories in each gram of carbs.
The body can burn any of carbs, fat or protein for energy, depending on the intensity and duration of exercise, and what is becoming available to the body through digestion. Not all of the 50 calories will be carbs. Where energy is coming from at any particular moment is irrelevant - over the entire 24 hour day the body will make use of all energy sources.
