Staying well hydrated during exercise can sometimes tone down the severity of soreness.

If you work out different muscles, it won't matter if your legs are sore, you can just do upper body instead. Alternate workouts, until you get past the point of being so sore afterwards. In a month or so, you will be used to the weights/reps/sets that you are lifting, and can combine the workout if you want, and then increase the workload. You may again experience DOMS, but it won't be for as long. I tend to be a little sore the day after, but that is it now, and only after I increase weights.

Just keep going, and only stop if you feel pain, not soreness.

Don't forget to stretch after your strength session! It helps to reduce soreness!

I have been sore too lately. I just take an easier day and then continue through the aches. I don't want to be too soft on myself.

I did crossfit for the first time in 4 years on Wednesday and happened to be squat day. I did well over 100 squats with weight.

I still can't go down stairs or walk or get out of a chair without using both arms. But I went for a run this morning, and running hurt far less than any of the movements I described above. And I know I'll be way less sore tomorrow because I got moving.

So my advice to you is to exercise, an easy bike ride or walk..it does far more for DOMS than sitting on your butt does.

The second day after a strength session, especially when you're just starting out, is usually the worst day for soreness. So I bet you will feel a lot better tomorrow. And follow Archimedes' advice. :)

Hey,

Being sore is very normal. Usually, people tend to be sore for 2 to 3 days. Even if you are sore, workout anyway! It will be painfull at the beginning, but 2-3 minutes into your workout, you won't feel the soreness anymore :)

I usually workout first thing in the morning, before I eat anything, when it's still dark outside. Love it!

KICKINGKILOS ,

How long it takes the soreness (DOMS) to subside will depend on how fast it takes for your body to adapt to the new routine. When I was out of shape and did squats/lunges, I was sore for a good 4-5 days. However, with time and regular practice, your body will adapt to the new routine and the soreness will subside.

What to do for now ? Take a walk. Some light cardiovascular exercise and stretching will help.

Personally, I find taking yoga the day after I strength train really helps. But for now, take a walk, hit the elliptical, swim or ride a bike. A little light activity to get your muscles moving will help you feel better.

hi,
I tried couple of exercises on Wednesday( squats/lunges etc)
I am STILL so sore. I wanted to get back to working out today, but I just couldn't move myself.

When does this pass???

Also-- what time of the day do you workout?
