We can work our muscles which make our body parts look smaller.

Burning fat is an all-body process, not a localized one, and you can't target where you lose weight from. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores. So while abdominal exercise may strengthen the abdominal muscles, they will do absolutely nothing about the overlying layer of fat there.

What you can do is to continue to reduce your overall body fat through a combination of cardio, all-body strength training and watching your intake, and some of it will naturally come off the belly. Work all the body, not just the abs.

TGRECO70,

Unfortunately, we can't spot reduce areas of our bodies we don't like. It would be great if we could, but we can't. I can assure you that if you were to eat right, watch your portions and got a little regular exercise, the weight would come off your entire body with time.

We don't get to decide where the weight comes off. Genetics makes that decision. So, don't beat yourself up if the weight doesn't come off your stomach as fast as you'd like We really can't target those areas. Good nutrition and portion control will help you lose with time.

As far as exercise, stop the situps, they won't target your middle. that's a fitness myth. Instead, consider adding exercises that work your CORE muscles. Pilates would be a good choice if you're in reasonably good health and your doctor has given you the all clear to exercise. Yoga might be a good choice too.

Sit ups ? If you feel sick after doing them, you may be doing them with improper form. which is why you should skip doing them in favor of exercises you can do. just try to be a little more active. you don't have to kill yourself in the gym to be fit. But, you do have to watch what you eat.

Mostly, take things slowly, weight loss is a slow steady process that takes time.

There is no way to target fat loss to specific areas of the body, so ab exercises are not going to help you lose belly fat. The way to lose excess fat is through a healthy diet and regular exercise, but your body will decide for itself where it wants the weight to come off and when. Eventually, it should start to come from those areas where you carry excess.

Hope that helps,

So I need to lose some belly fat along with some other areas. I went to do sit ups with my daughter the other day and actually got sick after just doing about 15-20 of them. I have a ab lounger but was looking at some ideas of how to lose around this area without making myself sick. I only need to lose about 15 more pounds to be at my goal weight. Its taken me over 1.5 years. Moved and got delayed on the weight loss. But determined now to lose these last pounds. Please help. emoticon
