I am doing hip hop abs shaun t does stand up abs, the videos have lots of cardio and strengthens ab exercise, while you don't see abs if there is too much fat on top the body works to burn fat by the total amount of muscle the body has as well. so even though you need a good diet and fat burning more muscle burns more fat at rest. working all areas of the stomach help with things like the natural girdle oblique to pull it all together, a strong core helps you with all your daily activities saves the back too.

HIIT (high intensity interval training) is one of the best ways to burn all fat. Again, you can't target reduce. Look into HIIT, there is a ton of info on it

any suggestions on how to lose some belly fat? I know you can't choose where you want to lose the weight, but is there any certain exercise that might help?

Dragonchilde not sure where you dug this answer up from.

Zurichman you lost your belly fat because you were genetically predisposed to do so.

1. I ate a clean diet something I haven't done before.
2. I worked out hard for over 2 months at Planet Fitness. I ever had the fitness instructor set up a program there that was cycle related core strength exercises from Bicycling magazine.
3. The only genetically thing I have going for myself is that I have a high metabolism so yes I probably see results faster than most people.

When exercising you have to just keep moving one foot at a time.

I thankfully lost it in my belly but that is because I am working from the area of calories going down and moving almost everyday so that is what is helping me.

I too lose fat in other areas first. Belly fat is the hardest for me to lose. Thanks for the info on trouble zones and genetics. emoticon

ZURICHMAN, the reason you lost the belly is because you were genetically predisposed to doing so. Everyone has their trouble zones, and where we lose first is largely genetic. For example, many women have trouble with their backsides and arms, but I don't. When I work out, I lose fat in my legs, arms, and backside, but not my belly. It gets smaller, but it's the absolute last thing to go.

It wasn't the core exercises, because your body draws its energy from the blood stream, not the surrounding fat stores. When you do core work, your body is not pulling fat from your core to fuel that workout.

It is usually the case of 'first on, last off'. Be patient, and keep up the great work, and eventually it will come off the belly.

I probably am the lucky one in that I have a high metabolism so I see results very fast. At your end it probably will just take some more time. A thought is it took quite some time to get to that so as long as your are making improvements be happy with that and know that it will get better each week.

Good luck on your journey.

I'm eating clean. Exercising 6 days a week. Losing weight and inches...everywhere but my belly.

Yup, eat clean. Drink water. Make sure you are tracking your food. You can do core exercises all you want and get a 6 pack but it will still be buried in fat!

"What are the best exercises for losing belly fat?"

There aren't any.
Sorry.

Fat loss happens when you eat at a deficit and strength train. Core exercises will target the abs UNDER the fat, but they won't get rid of the fat.

I guess different things work for different people. All I know at my end is that I worked out at Planet Fitness for over 2 months and mostly doing core strength and lost 20 lbs and 4 inches off my waist. I also did a clean diet.

I disagree with Zurichman.

Burning fat is an all-body process, and you can't target where you lose weight from. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores. While core workouts may strengthen the core muscles (which is a good thing), they will do absolutely nothing about the overlying layer of body fat.

what you can do is to continue to reduce your overall body fat through a combination of cardio, all-body strength training and watching your intake, and some of it will naturally come off the belly.

Actually, core exercises aren't going to help you lose belly fat. There's no way to target fat loss to specific areas of the body. Your body will decide for itself where it wants to take the weight off and when, but eventually it should start to come from those areas where you carry excess. Core exercises will help strengthen your ab muscles, but you won't see that definition until the excess fat is gone. That happens through regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Hope that helps,

You don't ask for nutrition advice, but losing that belly will be difficult unless you reduce your calorie and fat intake. It would be best for you to seek nutrition info here on Spark, or, better yet, with your physician, since your doctor knows you best.

Zurichman is spot on, too. Check out the core exercises here on Spark. There are lots of really good suggestions.
