Thanks. I have it set for the very active and I may have a hard time reaching that range of calories if I do cardio. I guess I'll learn as I go. I wasn't planning on tracking what I did at work, just the cardio (walking and intervals) and strength training. Thanks for reminding me to just pay attention to my body. The only hard part about the job are the long days and hiking through the woods. I enjoy the challenges of the field research though. And you're right, any job is a good job in this economy. I do love wildlife research.

I would go all the way back to your main goals and set your lifestyle to active, rather than necessarily tracking the activity you do at work. That should give you a good baseline calorie range and then you can add additional activity to "earn" more calories... I would just listen to yourself; if you are super hungry add in some more protein, fat, and fiber.

I have just started a temporary job that will end at the end of May. Starting next week, I will be setting a checking 244 small mammal traps each day over the course of 8 days. These will be long and physically exhausting days.
Before I accepted this position, I was doing cardio 5 days/week for about 45 minutes to an hour each time and strength training 2-3 days/week for about 30 to 35 minutes each time. I would do my cardio in the morning and strength training later in the day. I knew that I'd need to cut back on my cardio while I am doing this job. The terrain here is quite challenging and definitely increases my heart rate (while working, going for a brisk walk or doing intervals).
My thought is that I could aim for full body strength training 2 days/week with no cardio. And for cardio, I was thinking of aiming for 3 to 4 days for 30 to 45 minutes of walking or intervals. I brought my bike but it's a road bike and I'm staying in area where the road is pretty much all gravel.
I feel bad that I can't exercise as much as I want, but this job is physically active. I am also trying to focus on what I eat. I have done similar types of jobs, but before I wasn't physically active or paying attention to what I eat.
So, two questions: 1) I am still wanting to lose weight (aka reduce body fat %), so is it ok that I have to cut back on the time I work out? Should I do less cardio and more strength training? I do love cardio though. 2) Because this job is so physically active, I have set it so that my fitness minutes & calories burned communicate with the food tracking. How can I make sure that I am eating enough so that I can still lose weight? I can describe what I'd eat on a typical day when I would be in the field if that would help.
