Because of your medical issues, your best bet is to talk to your doctor about what exercises are safe and what you should avoid. If the physical therapist you saw wasn't helpful, I'd try a different one. A PT should be able to give you an exercise program specific to your needs. They should also be able to help you slowly progress back into a regular routine so that eventually, you can get back to those activities you enjoy.
