Are you trying to lose weight off your tummy or try to increase a little lean muscle ? If you're trying to lose weight, Coach Jen is right. We can't spot reduce areas of our bodies we don't like. When it comes to losing weight, what matters most is what we eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit.
I can assure you that if you eat a healthy diet, watch your portions and get some regular exercise that includes some strength training, you would loss off your entire body with time.
Now, if you are trying to add some lean muscle, what are you doing for strength training ? a good strength training program benefits ALL people regardless of age or sex. So, if you're not strength training, I'm going to encourage you to start. You don't have to do a lot to start.
Check out the Spark fitness section. Coach Nicole has a bunch of short 10-15 min strength workouts you can try at home. All you'd need is a set of hand weights and a resistance band or two.
If you want to "tone" your body, you need to strength train. Don't train parts, work the whole enchilada. There is no point having rock hard ABs if you have weak shoulders and back. Engage in exercises that work your whole body. And you could also try PILATES. Pilates is another great core strengthing activity.
There's no way to target fat loss to a specific area of the body. A healthy diet and regular exercise will help with overall fat loss, but your body will decide where it comes off and when. Eventually you should start to see progress in those areas where you carry excess.
