I agree with everyone that said go slow! One more thing, if you're still coughing you may still be contagious for up to 10 days. I wouldn't go to a gym where you can spread it around. I wouldn't try to work up a sweat yet. See how you feel after work and then slowly start walking a little each day until you can pick up speed. I'd stay close to home in case you feel woozy!
Good luck and feel better!

Blessings,
Nancy

I had the flu over New Year's and am just now getting back to an energy level that I can workout successfully.

Listen to your body. If you feel up to your Zumba class, go but I wouldn't stand in the front row so that if the coughing gets to be too much, you can easily step out. And would it be a crime not to make it through the whole workout? It might do you good to see your fellow workout buddies.

Thanks for the feeback. Taking it easy sounds sensible, but I really want to work up a sweat. My zumba class is tonight and it makes me so happy, but I guess I'll be coughing through it and too weak to keep up.

I had the flu and it took me about 2 weeks to feel my energy come back. My first workout was 2.5 weeks after I got sick, and I still had to cut it short and take it easy. I had it in my chest and I still had some shallow breathing during and after my workout. Don't push yourself, take some easy walks maybe add in a little core exercises, even do some gentle stretching.

I agree, everything I have read on the subject says take it easy or you will get sick again. I was researching this as I had a 24 hour bug end of December. An easy walk and increase intensity as you begin to feel better.

If you're still weak, the last thing you want to do is any intense exercise. That will just cause you to lapse back into the illness. Instead, if you feel like you have a bit of energy, take a nice, easy walk. Don't try to do too much too soon or you really will end up sick again. Your body is weak and still needs time to recover. Give it that time.

As your energy levels return, then you can think about more intenese workouts. For now, stick with a walk.

I'm on Day 5 of the flu. I hope to go back to work tomorrow. I want to start exercising again but I don't want to push it while I'm weak...how should I get back into it?
