This may not be the correct board for this suggestion, but I would love sparkpeople to release a DVD of all their 'sit down' exercises. Having a 'rebuilt' ankle, I am always looking for no impact workouts.

I've been able to check out a couple from the library, but their supply is somewhat limited. I did look at the collagevideo.com website, and that's definitely helpful, so I appreciate the info on that.

Thanks again! emoticon

I'm going to second the use of the public library. You could try out a variety of DVDs without having to buy them or before investing in them.

I second the notion of going to your local library and seeing what they have.....I've viewed a few where the instructor's style made the workout tougher than the moves did!

Check out the web site www.collagevideo.com. It's got clips of each dvd and reviews from both their staff and customers. Their prices are pretty good too.

My personal faves at the moment are the workouts that came with my BOSU ball, Amy Dixon's HIIT workouts, and a couple of yoga dvd's.

Thanks for all the recommendations! Are there any excerpts of the SparkPeople "Total Body Sculpting" DVD on the site? I didn't like the excerpt from the 28-Day Bootcamp, so I'd like to view some of it before I buy it (library doesn't have it).

Total Boby Sculpting by Spark People with 3 different workouts as well as 3 levels on each that are not to difficult and fun to do. I was surprised at how much bending and movement I got in these without feeling exhausted.

I love Jillian Micheals, and even though she is tough she always has modifications. I have been told she is too difficult for beginners, but I have been able to find most of her workouts online to try first.
Also, if you aren't wanting to buy hand weights, cans of soup work too!

I started out with Leslie Sansone and still use her DVD's more often than any of my others. So maybe our tastes are similar. Some others I can recommend include:

1. Ellen Barrett DVD's -- I like "Grace and Gusto" and "Sleek Sculpt" You can preview them at www.collagevideo.com They are a little more difficult than Leslie Sansone, but easily adaptable to suit your level.

2. For strength training, I like "Body Shop" with Kelley Coffey-Mayer. It is a straightforward series of easy moves with a light dumbbell. You can start with the lightest of weights - or even none at all -- and increase the weights as you get stronger. It can also be previewed for free at www.collagevideo.com

My suggestion is for a DVD from Erin O'Brien. I have "Strong Body Ageless Body" but there's another one called "Strong Body Fit Body." She's quirky but encouraging and really, really positive! You just need hand weights and a mat. As I get stronger, the workout is still challenging.

You can look it up on YouTube, and then buy it if you like it. I suggest doing that with ANY DVD you are thinking about buying!

Good luck!

Pilates the method is pretty good. You need a yoga mat and small weights. Try some of the videos here on spark people. Free and challenging!

I've been working out to Leslie Sansone's "Walk at Home: A Mile Each Morning" DVD (purchased it), and really enjoy it. It's easy to follow, and I get a good workout. But, I would like some more variety. With the cold and snowy weather, I'm wanting another DVD or two so I can continue working out at home until it gets warm and clear enough to get outside. I know there are a lot of online videos available (including here on SparkPeople), but it's easier for me to follow on the larger screen of my TV (which doesn't have an HDMI port to connect to my laptop). Here's what I'm looking for:

1) Easy to follow -- i.e., no complicated combo routines (like where your arms and legs are going in different directions at the same time, or too many different steps at a time). I'm just not that coordinated! emoticon

2) Moderately intense (good for beginners like me)

3) Lots of fun and variety (including strength training)

4) Doesn't require any equipment other than dumbbells (can't afford it, and don't have the space)

Thanks in advance! emoticon
