I just started doing cardio and strength training in the same gym session about 2 months ago.
Frankly, I never thought I'd be able to do it. At home, I would get off my stationary bike after 30 minutes and feel DONE. Wiped out. But my personal trainer encouraged me to try it.
So now I do 35 minutes on the elliptical to warm up the whole body, and then I do 5 to 7 machines and 4 floor exercises (for abs). It takes me an hour and a quarter. I try to do this 3 times a week at least. Then twice a week I do 30 minutes of cardio on my bike at home with no strength training after.
I have not been at it long enough to tell if it's making a huge difference, but it certainly feels good.
