Go for it TBONE Does your gym have like a trial trainner to show you how to use the machines, if so that would help you not feel so intimidated, I know that was one of the hardest for me, I felt like I was in another world but I got to learn about them and now I feel better, I work out by myself with my music and jam away, still sometimes get a little set back trying new machines but its coming along Good luck, Dont give up on yourself

Today is a new day and I will not dwell on the negative of yesterday!

I was going to the gym faithfully. I had a workout partner. Well I have fallen off because she started to weight train with other people which made me feel left out and because I wasn't very familiar with the machines, I felt intimidated and stopped going. Well that is a thing of the past. Heading to Planet Fitness tomorrow after work and will stick with it... I am determined................. emoticon

cardio burns calories while you are doing it. strength training burns calories long after you have done it. I lost 60 lbs. by walking and eating right. so just remember that you can't out train a bad diet. I would use all the cardio machines at the gym that way you and your body doesn't get bored. Since it's been awhile I would start small and work you way up. Do 10 minutes of riding a bike......take a break then do 10 minutes on the treadmill. You will have to build your stamina up. Welcome to Spark People ! if you've been sedentary for a very long time, you should slowly ease into a routine. Don't try to do too much or you will end up frustrated. Start with something simple. How about a 30 minute walk ? Are you in good enough health to walk ? If so, walking is good way to begin an exercise routine. If you can't walk for 30 minutes, then start with 10 minutes. You can break your workouts up into shorter segments and still get all the benefits. Three 10 minute walks spaced out through the day still adds up to a 30 minute walk.

When is the last time you had a full physical ? The road to good health should always include regular trips to the doctor. If you haven't talked to your doctor in a very long time, it would be prudent to have a full physical done. Find out what your blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure all are. You need that baseline. You also need to know if you're in good enough health to start exercising.

The reason so many people get frustrated is they try to do things their body isn't ready to do. Thus the need to talk to your doctor as well as start very slowly especially if you have been sedentary.

Hey all I am back at the gym after years of being gone. I have a good amount of weight I would like to lose for my health an to feel better. Any suggestions on where to start treadmill, circuit weights ect. Any help or suggestions would be great.
