How about taking two or three short (e.g., 10 minute) walks a day, instead of taking one really long walk? The dogs would probably like that too! It's a good way to "ease in" to exercising, imo.
Because of my work schedule, I found that I had to take shorter walks more frequently rather than one long walk after work. At least I felt like I was moving/burning calories, and it was a nice mental break.
