I personally like the elliptical. It really doesn't matter which one you use...as long as you burn more calories than you consume, you'll lose weight.

One stumble does not a failure make.

Everything in moderation.

both can be extremely effective. It's all about the cardio.
It's just a matter of getting comfortable with one or the other, or both.

For me I prefer the treadmill, but I only have access to an elliptical so I make the best of it.

When it comes to exercise, the one YOU enjoy doing is the one you're more likely to stick with, which makes it a better exercise.

As others have said, what really matters is what you eat. Exercise is important for general health, and can give you a few more calories to work with, but weight loss mostly comes from feeding your body the appropriate number of calories and nutrients.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

Both will provide the cardio you need to burn calories. I prefer the treadmill as the elliptical give me shin splints. Don't know why, but it does.

Both are fitness machines. Why is there some kind of assumption that one of them won't help you lose weight?

Weight is about diet. What you eat will have far greater impact on your weight than how you work out. Provided THAT you work out.

Do what you enjoy - and watch the food! :)

Neither. When it comes to weight loss, what matters most is what you eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit. You can't outrun a bad diet with exercise. If you want to lose the weight and keep it off, you need to eat right and watch your portions.

What you do for exercise doesn't matter. You could run, cycle, swim, hike, ski, play tennis, take martial arts lessons, dance, play golf, ice skate, etc... it's all good.

What do YOU enjoy doing ? which are you most likely to use on a regular basis ? Remember, the exercise doesn't stop once we've lost the weight. If you want to be healthy for your entire life, you need to be active in some way.

Either can provide a tool for you to use to get cardio exercise in and burn calories.

Neither can help you lose weight unless you also watch what you eat. My take anyways- unless you watch what you eat (not necessarily diet, but cleaning up your nutritional habits), exercsing alone can't help you lose the weight you may desire.......
