I'm with you. I HATE walking on a treadmill for an hour. Even with music or something to read or watch... ugh.
Switching it up is a fine idea, and has the added benefit of working different muscles in different ways, so I bet you'll burn more calories! Also try adding in interval training as you get more fit; you get more bang for your time buck.
