I am glad you found something you could do together! I am not sure where she is on the autism spectrum, so if anything I suggest is too much, I apologize. emoticon

Are there other activities you can enjoy together? I am not sure where you live but maybe you could go sledding. Walking back up the hill is hard work. Or ice skating? Or, if you're in a warmer climate, does she enjoy playing at the park? Maybe you can use the equipment for squats, lunges, plans, pushups, etc. Can you go to a local zoo or garden and walk there?

As others have said, work in the exercise in smaller increments, say 10 minutes at a time. Involve her in your activity if you can. At 7 I would imagine she's got a lot of energy so maybe getting her to focus some of that energy with you might help. Autism takes many forms and manifests itself in many ways.

Getting up a little earlier should give you time for exercise. if that's not possible then make sure you keep your calorie intake under control and get to back to your exercise routine as soon as you can

If your daughter keeps you busy during the day, you might consider getting up a half an hour earlier in the morning. get in a short workout before everyone else is up.

Also, I agree with ML. if you can't exercise for 30 minutes, then break your workout up into shorter segments. three 10 minute workouts spaced out through the day still adds up to a 30 minute workout.

And depending on your daughter's age, why not get her involved ? Do you have a Wii Fit ? If so, play fitness games with her. If you don't have a Wii, then why not take her with you when you go for a walk. Walking is wonderful cardiovascular exercise. Does she like going to the park ? If it's snowing and you can't go to the park, build a snow man in the yard. that's a fun activity everyone will enjoy.

Will the universe end if you don't engage in your regular exercise schedule for a few days ? nope. the universe will keep moving along. Do what you can, but don't stress yourself out either. the goal of good health is to reduce stress, not increase it.

enjoy your time with your daughter.

You didn't say how old the child is but you can get some exercise in by including her in the fun. Try jumping jacks or running in place or anything you can think of. Maybe even keeping up with her will be some exercise. Little children are always active. emoticon emoticon Let us know how it goes. I know you can't control her so just try to relax and let her take the lead.

My nephew has autism, and I know how demanding this can be of parents.

Perhaps think about trying to work in exercise in 10 minute segments, rather than 30 or 40 minutes?

You can probably do a few sets of bodyweight strength training WHILE watching her.

My beautiful daughter is coming up to stay with me from tonight until the 30th. I am VERY excited and thrilled about that. I am just a little concerned about the lack of exercise opportunities I will have. She is very active (she has autism) and needs to be watched at all times.
I was thinking I could exercise after she goes to sleep. I am just worried by then I will be tired also, because I was told she wakes up at dawn, so I will be waking up early with her.
I am going to get some exercise in now, before she gets here, but I need some encouragement so I don't feel guilty if I do not get a chance to exercise most of the days she is here.
