Simone makes a good point. Doing many exercises quickly turns them from being a strength move into a cardio move.

Doing them slowly is actually harder, as the muscles are working to maintain you in the knees-bent position.

Doing them quickly is easier on the muscles, but the rapid up-and-down works the heart more and turns it into a cardio move.

They are body weight exercises so technically strength, however, if you do they fast enough with proper form and it raises your heart rate into the aerobic zone, they can also be cardio

M@L, I do weighted squat and I most definitely can not do 50 squats with the weight I'm at right now ;).

My previous post was to find out where the line between cardio and strength training was drawn.

LEC358,

If you can do 50+ squats in a single set, it is probably time to move up to single leg squats.

I figured as much. I just wouldn't have classified it as strength training. Muscular endurance/power training does have its uses though.

"Really? What if you can do 50+ squats/lunges in good form, without weights?"

You'd be building muscular endurance and wasting time when you could be doing something more productive.

when done without added weight, are lunges and squats considered strength training or aerobics?
