Sparks has a great article about beer bellies. Oddly the "add a link" button is for another article. Click on the the orange Articles & Video tab at the top of your Spark screen. Click on Nutrition. It's the featured article, ""3 Weight Loss Tips for Men."

Burning fat is an all-body process, and there's not much you can do to target where you lose weight from. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores. Doing abdominal exercises may build up the abdominal muscles, but will do absolutely nothing about the overlying layer of fat.

What you can do is to continue to reduce your overall body fat through a combination of cardio, all-body strength training and watching your intake, and sooner or later some of it will come off the belly.

Weight've got to do weight training along with changes in dietary habits. Use dumbbells. (I forgot you are going to a you probably already know the importance of this...unless you are spending your gym time on treadmills and stair steppers.) But who really needs a gym? I tried it and when I injured myself I never returned. Walking, cycling, jogging, gardening (heavy) are all ways to burn calories while dumbbells, fitness balls, resistance bands are an inexpensive way to bring the gym to the home.

What you're experiencing is not unusual. Unfortunately, we don't get to decide where the weight comes off. genetics makes that decision. So, you may want to get rid of your belly, but you may notice your shirts fitting better first. it happens.

What to do ? I can assure you the if you continue to eat right, watch your portions and get some regular exercise that includes some strength training, the weight will come off your belly. Remember, you didn't gain the weight overnight, it's not coming off overnight.

Be patient with yourself and your body. Continue to watch what you eat and the belly will go eventually.

Hello All,

Thanks to Spark People and lots of encouragement I am losing weight and getting fit.

I still have a beer belly that does not seem to go away. I am losing about 1 kg a week and going to the gym 3 times a week. What exercise or machine should I use in order to reduce my belly. I am a man who looks like he is about 4 months pregnant.

Thank you
