If you work it, you'll be able to achieve some awesome benefits!

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

I don't enjoy doing Zumba from videos, but live classes can be fun. However, the quality and intensity vary a LOT. As someone else mentioned, you can go full out and get an amazing workout from Zumba or you can phone it in...and obviously that will have something to do with how many calories you are burning.

I'm not sure that you can really compare the two as they are so different. You might want to compare calories for your particular running workout vs. the estimates for Zumba...you can look it up under Cardio Dancing in the tracker.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

If I were you, I would try out some Zumba routines on youtube or a similar site before purchasing DVDs. If you've never done it before, how do you know you'll like it?

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

As with a lot of forms of exercise, you get out of Zumba what you put into it. It is quite possible to follow the moves with a minimum of effort and only have a fairly moderate workout. However, if you throw yourself into it with enthusiasm, then it can be a really intense workout.

However, one thing about running is that it requires specific adaptations of the leg muscles and tendons to deal with the impact, and you need to run regularly to maintain this.

So perhaps the soundest approach might be to do something like Zumba as your regular go-to exercise to keep your overall cardio fitness levels up, but take the opportunity to run whenever there is a mild day.

I was thinking of buying some Zumba dvds for the winter because I'm a complete wuss to run outside in the cold. Zumba looks super fun, but It is as good of a cardio workout as running is?
