Precor is the only brand of elliptical where the motion feels comfortable and actually gets my heart rate up.

I also like the adjustable crossramp.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Yes I mean the Precor Cross ramp machines. In my gym, the traditional elliptical have the moving arms but the Crosstrainers do not. However - it seems like with the cross ramp you can target different parts of your lower body based on your settings. That's why I was curious what people prefer.

Thanks for the interval recommendation! I will have to try that.

"If you're using one at the gym which do you prefer - a standard elliptical or the (precor machines) Elliptical Cross Trainers? Do you feel one gives you a better workout than another?"

I may be wrong, but are you referring to the USA Precor Cross Ramp Trainer?

If so, then my gym has those and I much prefer it to the standard elliptical machine.

With the Cross Ramp Trainer you can adjust not only the resistance but also the gradient, so if you set the gradient to something like 12 or 13 it's almost like hiking uphill. And of course the machine also has the moving handles to work your arms.

I use an interval program where I go for two minutes on a gradient of 8 resistance 10, then two minutes on a gradient of 13 resistance 12. A great workout, and by the time I'm finished I'm pretty much good for not much else apart from cool down and a good stretch!

Please read my ticker backwards as I am trying to gain weight.

If by cross trainer you mean the one that uses your arms, I would pick the one that uses your arms any day. I've gotten off plain ellipticals before once the other type is available.

I'd rather get the full body workout. If you just put your arms on the handles and let the handles swing your arms it's not doing much. But if you think of skiing (I'm a cross country skier) and really "dig in" with your arms you can get a better workout, tone your upper body and push the calories burned per minute higher.

I know there are other options for cardio workouts as well:) - but just wondering between these two which you'd pick and why?
