Thanks so much everyone - at least I know I'm not insane now :-)

I have been doing only very mild exercise as I use to be chairbound and have recently increased my speed and also the length of time I exercise

I have many allergies but I didn't even think my body could be packing a sad over exercise lol

I have that problem, also. It started when I was pregnant with my daughter who is now 10 years old and it doesn't happen all of the time. If I take a break from exercise and than "jump" right back into it, I will itch. Usually if I'm running or jumping. If the weather is cold outside, than I may itch. If I'm not sweating enough (maybe due to not drinking enough water) than I may itch. People think I'm crazy when I tell them this. In fact, when I mentioned it to my doc several years ago, he looked at me like I was crazy. My mother says dehydration, and I've read that its an allergy so what I do is take an antihistamine prior to the work out (especially if I will be working out outdoors) and make sure to get in plenty of water. This helps. If you google "itching while exercising" you will see that there seem to be a lot of people who experience this. Its very uncomfortable. I wish you luck!

Have you just started exercising or exercising hard then before? I had that happen to me. It's the capillaries opening and closing quickly. Your body can interpret that as itch. Once your body becomes accustomed to exercising the itchy sensation goes away. I had the worst problems with my core and legs itching.

It could also be the things the previous posters said. Those are legitimate reasons, too.

I get really itchy after exercising when I sweat a lot, and my doctor told me to take an antihistamine after working out, which has been working great. I think there are various allergies and other reasons this might be happening to you, so you should probably see your doctor about it and relax, because it's probably easy to fix!

Check with your doctor. You could have an allergy. My sister has an exercise allergy. She has to take an antihistamine before any activity or she breaks out in hives and gets really itchy. This is a real allergy.

and it's not my clothes as areas that are not covered by clothing are even worse. I thought it may be because I'm getting hot and clammy but I have the same thing when I'm on my vibration machine and I'm not hot or clammy then

I'm drinking heaps of filtered water, not eating much rubbish (well apart from tonight)

Any ideas ??
