DAKOTAGIRL290: You can lose weight (and, consequently, belly fat) through doing cardio. Obviously, eating fewer calories than you consume will help in fat loss. Since I have known and know numerous people who have both lost weight and gotten rid of belly fat (including myself) through walking and/or spinning and/or jogging and/or doing other cardio exercises, it obviously can be done.
However, at some point, if one includes strength-training into an overall exercise regimen, he/she usually finds that helps a lot in giving a person a more muscular physique.
My advice would be to cut calories (but eat healthy and enough), do exercises that you like and will continue to do, and record accurately your calorie consumption and expenditure.
Losing belly fat is not easy, but a clear and healthy plan-of-attack, adherence to the plan, and the power of positive thinking will all combine to produce the results you want.

Great for you. I must say I do Cardio, and it just did not do anything for my stomach area. A friend of mine who is big boned, very toned and has no stomach , told me that I needed to do strength training. I do boot camp classes. I do kettle bells at home. And I do Zumba for cardio. I have noticed my stomach getting a lot tighter, with the boot camp and kettle bell workouts .Far from a 6pk, but so much better.. And with proper food intake.
You can't choose where fat is decreased from your body. Genetics and age (other factors beyond your control) determine where you store and lose fat.
In short, you lose fat by burning more calories than you consume and creating a consistent calorie deficit from your daily calorie expenditure. (ie: eat in your Spark calorie range).
Exercise (specifically cardio) will help increase your daily calorie expenditure to either create a larger deficit or to allow you to eat more while losing weight (or both). Full body strength training will help prevent lean muscle/tissue loss while losing weight so you don't end up "skinny fat" at your goal weight (high body fat percentage at a low weight. Which will contribute to having more belly fat even at a light weight).
If you want a small waist line, then lowering your overall body fat % should be your goal over general weight loss. (Maintain or even build muscle and burn fat).
"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. It doesn't happen, what does happen is you get results. Lifting Barbie weights does nothing but waste time.

There's no way to target a specific area on your body for fat loss. Where you store fat is genetically pre-determined - some people carry weight in their upper bodies, some their stomach area, and some in their lower bodies. The only way to reduce the size of your belly is to lose weight overall. That said, there's a good chance that if your body tends to store weight in that area, that'll be the last place to shrink. It's a bummer, but so far there's no magic exercise to change your genetics.
Hi all! I'm starting a cardio plan and wondering what to do specifically to help me lose belly inches. In the past I've lost weight but this stomach fat remains! I so much want to have a flat stomach. I need some kind of plan. Thanks.
