I need to know the best exercise to start tackling the belly fat.
=====

The best exercise, according to nearly all studies ever done, is vigorous cardio. That's any activity that gets your heart rate up - fast walking, cycling, swimming, dancing, sports, etc.

Ab exercises don't target ab fat - they only build up the muscle layer under the fat. Ab exercises won't give you the results you want. Full-body strength training may help though. A popular lifting program is New Rules of Lifting for Women - check it out.

Fat around the middle is what you eat. The best way to get it off is to do cardio and eat lean.

A strong core is indeed important for posture and balance.

Planks are a very effective core exercise, as they work a wide range of core muscles (including the back).

Add in side planks, and also deadlifts, and you have a pretty good overall core workout.

Thank you for all the helpful responses. I'm not looking for a quick fix for belly fat loss. I'm asking for some core exercises that a person my size can do effectively. Thanks again!

Actually, sit-ups rate low on the list of effective ab exercises.

However, everyone is correct about losing weight overall to banish a belly, but that doesn't mean you can't get started on your core now. Make sure you also include exercises for the back as well as obliques.

Defintely the best exercises for belly fat are fork put-downs, table push-aways and one arm fridge door closes.

OK, flippancy aside, unfortunately you can't target where you lose weight from. Energy is delivered to the muscles via the bloodstream, NOT from being absorbed from surrounding fat stores. While core exercises will strengthen the core muscles, they will do absolutely nothing about the overlying layer of fat.

What you can do is to continue to reduce your overall body fat through a combination of cardio, all-body strength training, and watching your intake (in increasing order of effectiveness) and some of it will naturally come off the belly.

Unfortunately, there is no way to target fat loss in a specific body part. I know there are tons of pills, videos, creams and cleanses that say they can make you drop belly fat fast, but the truth is, you body/genetics determines where you gain the weight first, where you carry your weight, and where you loose the weight.

The best way to target fat- Any fat- it is eat right and exercise- both cardio and strength training.

Good luck.

so many of us do- unfortunately there aren't any exercises that can target the belly fat- cardio & full body strength training are the way to go. see if you can do other core exercises - spark has a bunch of them in the fitness tracker and has many videos too (check out some of the pilates ones- they focus on a lot of core work). belly fat just takes time to go away- so far i feel like everything else on me has been getting thinner EXCEPT for my belly :P stick with it and that will go away too!

Current goal:
- 32 by end of April.

Next goals: -
39 total by end of May.
-46 by end of June.
