LEC has given you some good advice. Any kind of mat should work- a sticky mat will probably keep the ball in place most easily, but might not provide the cushioning you're looking for. A towel will work just as well.

Thanks for responding. I will try the towel or bath mat first, then decide. This is all new to me and since I am 66 with 2 yr old lumbar fusion which makes it hard to get up and down, your info matters to me.

I've used a yoga mat (5mm?) with an exercise ball in pilates classes before and also a ball without a mat. I've never really noticed a difference between the two setups, though sometimes the mat would just be in the way.

That being said, do you need to use a full mat, or would a folded up towel or bath mat suffice? My mom has knee pads that she uses for weeding and they serve double duty as cushions when she's doing floor exercises at home.

thanks, I read the Article and have searched reviews of mats. but none mention using with the exercise ball. I would like to know if this type of use is unreasonable? Would help to hear if anyone else uses a pad while using the ball? If so, how thick is the one THEY use?

I am getting the exercise ball but I see in Nicole's video that you have to able to kneel at times which I cannot do on my tile floors. Does anyone else use a mat with the ball? If so, how thick is your mat?
