How long have you been using the treadmill ? I would take any reading with a "grain" of salt. Machine readers can be notoriously inaccurate. How do you increase your stamina on the treadmill ?

I'm going to tell you an old cliche. A tourist in NYC asks a local,"How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" The local replies,"practice... practice... practice".

If you've recently returned to a regular exercise program, you can't expect your body to sprint for a sustained period. You have to slowly ease into a regular routine so that your body has time to ADAPT to that routine. Depending on when you started to exercise, figure a minimum of 3-4 weeks to see a change. but it could take 6-8 weeks. It really depends on how your body adapts to a new exercise routine.

As far as heart rate, do take any treadmill reading with a grain of salt. Instead, use rate of perceived exertion. How do YOU feel when you're sprinting ? Do you feel like you're out of breathe ? Does it feel like you just ran as fast as you could to make a bus ? If so, you may only be able to sprint for 30 seconds. And that's okay. You don't have to kill yourself to be healthy. As I told another member, cardiologists will tell you that taking a 30 minute brisk walk each day can reduce your risk for heart disease by over 30%.

If you're new to exercise, start slowly. If you feel like you want to add in occasional sprints, that's great ! But, if you need to slow down after 30 seconds and need to walk, that's okay too. Plenty of people start out with a walk/run combo on the treadmill. Some people just walk.

Mostly, you need to be more patient with your body. Practice... practice... practice... that's how you get to Carnegie Hall and increase stamina.

I have the same issue, but my heart rate (BPM) won't go above 70 or 80 no matter how hard I work out. Do you have low blood pressure?

Find a lower-tech treadmill.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

My heart rate wont go up when I'm on the treadmill is stays right around 130. The treadmill says it should be around 156 and it just keeps inclining, the only way it goes up is if i jog and i can only jog for about 30 seconds then I'm so out of breath i have to walk again but my heart rate goes right back down to 130. How do i keep it up?
