I broke my fibula (complex fracture) cross-country skiing, so yesterday did two of Coach Nicole's seated exercises. The first was for upper body, and the second was aerobic. I was a little nervous about the second video because I was moving my feet a lot, so I appreciate the advice to look under Community for people with limited mobility. Thanks!

Hi, sorry I just saw your reply. The 1st time, I stepped in a hole while making s'mores in the dark while camping. This time, I was on a rolling staircase-type thing, and it tipped over and I landed wrong on my foot. Both times, my ankle kind of rolled and my 5th metatarsal was fractured -- I've previously sprained both ankles, so I guess they're weak. Something to work on I guess.
I was a size 8 and in pretty good shape when I broke my foot 6 years ago, and suddenly I went from working out 6-7 hours a week to 0 for the 6+ weeks it took to heal, and never did get past exercising 2-3 hours a week. Now I'm a size 14/16, and just broke my other foot. So this time I'm planning to do as much as possible to maintain my current fitness level. I agree with the other responses, check with your doctor first.
I have plantar fascitis that I received treatment for late last year -but it is a long recovery. Rather than my crazy walking (which I am just now starting) I discovered Exhale Core Fusion Yoga.
The video I like the best has 30 days of 2 ten minute workouts - so it is different every day. I have vastly increased my core and upper body strength and haven't gotten bored. Might want to check it out.
There is actually quite a bit of information on sparkpeople about wellness for people with limited mobility. Check in the Lifestyle Center. I have a friend in a wheelchair so I looked up a bunch of things in there for her.

I'm sorry to hear about your injury. What did your doctor say you could do ? Because of your injury, you should always listen to the advice of your doctor. I know you're itching to get out there, but any activity could hinder your body's ability to heal. So, if your doctor told you to lay off exercise for two months, you need to lay off.
Will you gain weight ? yes, IF you don't eat right. When it comes to weight loss or weight gain, what matters most is what we eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit and healthy. In short, you can't outrun a bad diet with exercise. So, if you haven't been eating right, now is the time to pay closer attention to your nutrition. I can assure you that if you eat a wholesome balanced diet and watch your portions, you will not gain weight because you can't exercise.
What to do to stay a little active ? If your doctor says it's okay to do a little something, then how about sitting in a chair and doing some upper body strength exercises ? Work your upper body exercises while your lower body heals. Ever see the wheelchair athletes during a marathon ? Their upper body strength and endurance is pretty amazing.
So, check with your doctor first, if your doctor says it's okay, do some upper body exercises or even chair workouts while your foot heals. If your doctor wants to lay completely off, then you listen to your doctor if you want your foot to heal properly.
Believe me, if you're watching what you eat, you will not gain.

Hi - I am looking for some hints for exercise with a foot injury. I had surgery on one foot two years ago and torn a tendon in another for the last two year! I am an avid walker, but with these problems have not been able to tolerate it and an back in a boot for 2 months. I have used this as an excuse for too long and gain 20 pounds. What exercise can you suggest w/o much use of feet?? Please help
