Of course. I did step at my gym for about 6 months. It's fun, intense, and a bit addictive.
The biggest thing you need is a good pair of no-slip shoes designed for lateral movement. Running shoes are terrible, and I hurt myself several times trying. I got a pair of good cross trainers, and it was great.
