I also think you should go to the doctor. Earlier this year I had a minor sprain in my left ankle that made it HUGE, but that also had minimal pain (I actually didn't even know I did it until I saw the swelling). However, I could tell it wasn't as strong as it normally was so I still had to wrap it and rest it and treat it.

When you retain fluid, it's not all in one spot. So you may be retaining fluid, and ALSO have an issue with your ankle.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

I've always had problems with swelling in legs and ankles! My left is worse due to spraining that ankle 3 times (I believe), but is very frustrating and would love to know an answer!

Been wearing compression hose for about 2 weeks + and does help, but would love to NOT have to do those!

I would get it checked out. I had very odd and unexplained swelling a year ago; I now think it was related to food sensitivities. They ran every test in the book, including sending me to a vein specialist. He told me that they're usually more concerned with vein issues when the swelling occurs on just one side (mine was both). If you press, does the indentation stay?

Since this is a new problem and it's just happening on one side (vs. both ankles being swollen), I'd talk to your doctor about it just to be safe. They might also be able to tell you how to self-treat the problem.

I joined the gym 4 weeks ago after losing 46 pounds, but with still 39 pounds more to go. I've been doing 10,000 or over steps a day, with at least 30 minutes of cardio, usually more like 50-60 minutes on a cross ramp, and elliptical. I've also been walking during the day about 2 miles when I can. the problem is, since I started exercising, my left ankle has become really swollen...actually I think its just filled with fluid. There's absolutely no pain at all. I did have a physical a couple of months ago, and everything was good. any idea why this may be happening, and what I can do about it? Also, in the last two weeks, after always losing from week to week, my weight loss has stopped. Could this be due to retained fluid? thanks for your help
