I've never been a fan of the recumbent bike - I prefer the regular upright bike whether it be stationary or the real thing. I also don't find them comfortable.

At the gym I will always choose the treadmill over the bike, unless there are absolutely no treadmills available then I'll gravitate to the stationary bike.

Recumbent uses far less joints/muscle groups than the treadmill, plus it is not bodyweight bearing, so the calorie burn for me on a recumbent even at high resistance is about half of what I burn running on the treadmill. The bike is good for HIIT intervals though.

I use both the treadmill and the recumbent bike and u will notice that u burn more cals on the recumbent bike than u do on the treadmill.

Personally, I prefer both. Variety keeps my workout from getting stale and if you do the same old thing each and every day, your body will get used to it and make the exercise null and void.

Normally, I use the treadmill, but today there wasn't one free. Since I can't get the hang of an elliptical, I used the recumbent instead. Wasn't terribly comfortable, but I didn't sweat as much and if I trust sp numbers I used up more calories than I normally do with the treadmill. Which do you guys prefer? Treadmill or Recumbent?

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
