I have always worked out in the evenings. In school all my sports/practices were after classes. I tried am workouts in college, it was the worst sleeping month of my life. The industry I work in now likes to get an early start, so it's never been feasible to do a workout in the am.

I never have trouble going to sleep. My workout gets me all loose and tired, so after my shower, I am ready for bed. I think it's just the pattern I'm used to.

I do both. I know I need a regular schedule, but I have not disciplined myself to do that. I get up at 5:00 and walk/run with the dogs. Sometimes I do a run without the dogs, then take them out after. I also have a group I work out with after work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sometimes I work out after work at home too. I don't belong to a gym, but when I did belong to a gym I had no problem working out in the evenings. I am a night person. It felt great to workout, shower, and chill beofre bed.

I workout in the evenings after dinner and my daughter gets a bath/goes to sleep. That is usually around 7:30. I don't find it hard to go to sleep afterwards - I use those nights as times where I shower and straighten my hair. So, I'm usually ready for bed around 10 anyway. Plenty of time for me to slow down.

Always in the evening after work, except weekends. If I don't do it immediately though, I won't do it . . . I can't sit down and relax or eat, except for a few almonds. I workout and then shower, and then the evening is mine . . . eat dinner knowing I've finished my "work" for the day :)

Blessings,
Nancy

I work out almost exclusively in the late afternoon/evening because that's what works for me - usually sometime between 7-9. Not a morning person doesn't even begin to cover it for me, so even though I like the idea of morning workouts, it just won't happen. I occasionally, on the weekend or day off, will work out sooner to accommodate other things, but it does throw me off a bit. My night owl tendencies make falling asleep at a decent time difficult with or without the workout.

I'll sometimes wait until dusk in the summer so it's a little cooler out. I do think if I go really late, it keeps me from sleeping. I'm better at morning workouts though only because nothing can really get in the way. Sometimes when I plan to work out at night, things can pop up that can seem more important and it doesn't get done.

I exercise right after I come home from work between 6 and 7 pm. ... then I shower ... have dinner ... and I am "home for the evening." It's a great way to leave all the stress of work behind me so that I can "truly home" and relax.

I usually work out late afternoon or evening (unless it's HIIT and I'm going to be jumping, then I do it in the afternoon so my downstairs neighbors don't hate me!) because I just can't drag myself out of bed to do it in the morning, and I'm always starving when I wake up, so I have to eat and let it digest before I workout.

I workout in the evening too. I actually found it harder on myself to workout during the day. I am just getting back in to working out. I work as a school cook so my days are filled with lifting and standing. I get home totally bagged, I rest up, make dinner and let it digest. Most days I exercise just before bed, I end up in bed with wet hair most nights. Last week I tried the middle of the day because I knew I was going to make an excuse if I left it. Well I was ready to sleep while I was at the beach with the kids. I seriously could have taken a nap right on the dock. So nighttime exercise as become my routine and straying from that throws my body off.

Working out in the evening gives me something to look forward to during the day. I don't forget to do it, ever and I rarely talk myself out of it - like I would in the morning for a few more minutes of sleep.

I work out RIGHT after work because unlike the previous poster, I can't work out with food in me so I have my last snack around 2pm or so. Then I have dinner, clean up and get ready for bed.

I do sometimes have trouble falling asleep, but I'm working on that and it comes down to workout intensity - so I'm trying to save my intervals and hills and even tempo runs for Fridays or weekend mornings.

I also work out in the evenings - I need food in my belly before a workout and I enjoy staying up later with my husband, so getting up at 4 am just isn't feasible for me.

I've never had an issue with remembering, nor have I found it hard to go to bed. My biggest challenge is "don't wanna", after 8 hours of work and coming home to a comfy couch and the internet and videogames and a purring cat, it can be challenging for me to get motivated and get OFF the couch and go to the gym. I'm able to overcome this by having my accountability buddy (my husband), and by scheduling my workout days.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

I work out in the evenings most of the time because of my work schedule. I'm already up at 5:20 a.m. to walk my dog before getting ready for work, and I can't get up at 4:30 to work out. For me, it works out well. I aim to be finished with my workout, which is usually high-intensity, by 7:15 and then eat dinner around 7:30. I'm in bed by 9:30 most nights and have no trouble sleeping. I schedule it in advance and know what I'm doing each day to take the guesswork out of it. So I just have to follow the schedule.

There are different schools of thought on this. I've heard research from experts cited that indicates that one should not be able to go to sleep or metabolize properly doing what I do, and I've heard research from experts that indicates that what I'm doing is great. I think it's an individual thing, and I am personally a proponent of finding what and when and where works best for your own success. Try it and see. On Saturdays, I work out in the morning, and I do have more energy in the 8-10 am range, but that's the only day I can even do that. But I've adapted to make it work for me.

Motivation will get you to the start line; discipline will get you to the finish.

So it is almost time for school to start up again which means my afternoons will be taken up with being homework support. Is anybody else doing their workout in the evenings? Do you find it harder to remember to do? Is it harder or easier to go to bed afterwards?

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
