The problem is in the interface between Fitbit and Spark People. It is not a problem with the Fitbit. The Fitbit is telling you how many calories you burned totally, including your BMR. Spark People does not compute it that way. Spark figures any exercise you do as specific calories above the BMR it already figured out for you.

I find the Fitbit to be generally as accurate, or more so, than Spark People in calculating my calories. As for the food, if you go into "log" on Fitbit you can manually delete any foods you don't want on there.

Happy, I do like that it reports my steps and mileage into SP so I don't have to manually enter, and i like the sleep monitor. Just beware that the calories it says you burned are a lot more than SP gives for the same activity and same weight individual.

I think the fitbit is fairly accurate for walking in my experience- it is not accurate for cardio machines. I track my own workouts with my heart rate monitor so I delete the fitbit info every day. I don't track nutrition or anything else on my fitbit. I like it for step counts, etc. and general activity.

Thanks for checking Coach Denise. I bought my Fitbit in part because of the partnership and synching with SP, but with the differences in calories it's showing burned, it now seems like I purchased an overpriced step counter:(

I checked with our tech team about Fitbit's reported calories and unfortunately, we don't really have control over what they report to us.

I agree with dragonchilde regarding fitbit overestimating calories. that is why i don't use it anymore. i am sure that SP is aware there are syncing issues. so, if you continue to have problems, try resetting your fitbit.

I'm not familiar with the Fitbit/SP sync, but I will say your fitbit is probably overreporting on your calorie burn during your walk. A good rule of thumb for tracking walking is around 100 calories per mile. There's some variance obviously for size/effort, but to double that is just a bit much.

1300 is also REALLY, really low for your activity level; at your weight (going by your ticker) you should be eating a bit more. 1200 is the minimum, and generally only appropriate for inactive people close to their goal weights. When I was over 200, my range was around 1700-2000.)

My Fitbit is over reporting my calories to SP. SP says my 50-minute three mile walk burned about 360 calories. I am at 9000 steps for today, but only the 50 minutes counts as "very active." Fitbit reported over 600 calories burned and SP added it to my calorie range. (1800-2200 for today). The Fitbit dashboard says I need to eat 1300 calories to lose 2 lbs./week and gives me a "whoops" message if I go over. (And I always go over on Fitbit because if I edit my nutrition tracker SP reports removed items to Fitbit.)

I know I can change my nutrition tracker back to the old setting where the calorie range doesn't adjust. I try to keep in the 1200-1550 calorie range anyway, eating on the higher end only when I exercise more since I have a lot to lose. I would still like to see the correct adjustment from what I track on Fitbit

Does anyone know if SP is working on correcting these issues?
