I love rowing. I could only do it for 20 minutes at first because of back soreness, though (not bad form, just not used to it yet). It definitely kicks your butt -- it's a different feel than other types of cardio.

I have a York rowing machine, I can't say that I love it but I have started using it a couple of times a week.
I agree ten minutes seems a long time. Don't set it up too tight or you won't do ten minutes. Start light and work up.

It is a great workout but you must build on what you can do.

Good luck

Well I didn't get a chance to use it because I was looking for the one that looked like the concept 2 and there wasn't one ( my boyfriend said there was a rowing machine in the weight area I was like the one for cardio and he said yes) Guess I got a little intimidated when i walked into a room filled with people lifting and I was looking for cardio. Though he said you can put weights on it so now I'm a little confused

Like Harps81, I do the rowing after I have already been for a run (well more like walk/run intervals). Either way, the rowing machine can be useful as a warm-up, post-run (or post walk/run interval, post elliptical, etc.), or a stand alone workout. After several weeks, my shoulders actually feel stronger. They "feel" stronger, I don't know if they actually are stronger or if it's something in my mind. It doesn't matter though, the rowing machine is a great workout and overlooked by a lot of people.

I own a rowing machine and I normally start with a run or the eliptical first and then will end with this for 15 minutes or so... Work up a sweat...

Agreed, go to the Concept2 website and learn proper form. Which may be different form from what the gym staff will show you. emoticon

I love the rowing machine. If you can only do 5 or 10 minutes at a time that is ok. When I first started using it, that is how it was with me. I'd do 10 minutes and then go do something else in the gym and then come back and do another 10 minutes. Now, I can do 25 minutes in one go. Recently, though, I have been breaking it down so I can go get in 30 minutes (17 minutes, then 13 minutes). I use it 3x/week. I love using the machine because it's not used by many other people so I don't have to be social (introvert). As someone else mentioned, get someone to show you how to use the rowing machine properly. Of course, you can go to the concept2 website and there should be a video showing proper form.

I like the rowing machine - it's usually available, it's full body cardio. What's not to like?

do ask the staff about proper form - you don't want to end up with a backache!

I've only used it a few times - Its more difficult than other cardio machines so don't feel bad if you can only do 10 min at first! I think I'm going to start using it more often - you definitely use your entire body instead of just your legs when you use the bike or treadmill.

Personally not my favorite piece of machinery. However i did like the fishing game.

My best advice-- tag one of the instructors or staff members to help make sure you are set up properly. It is a good workout. I was huffing and puffing after about 10 minutes.

:)
