I would say I have. In high school I took an aerobics class, and we did yoga quite often. It really helps with flexibility, and to help relieve stress. It also can help cleanse your body. :)

I practiced yoga twice a day everyday for about a year. My interest was sparked After Christmas when i fel the need for a cleanse. I hated gyms and running, so I turned to yoga. I lost 8 kg and slimmed down 2 sizes. I was the lightest and thinnest I had ever been, and also the HEALTHIEST. It wasnt that I was starving myself. I was eating SUPER healthy (A Sattvic way of eating: NO meat, eggs or denatured foods) and I became very conscious of my eating habits. I also became very flexible and strong. I think it was the breathing, relaxing and becoming more aware of your eating habits. whatever it was, it really works. It just depends on how you practice it.

My best friend went from being a 1-2 time a week yoga class goer, to doing the training to become a yoga teacher. She did not change her diet in any way, and in fact I would think that she actually ate worse food because she was doing the course, working, and going to school all at the same time. She has not lost any weight at all since becoming a yoga instructor, but she has gone from a size 10 to an 8, and her body looks completely different. (she probably teaches 1-2 classes 4-5 days a week, maybe 8 total.)

What sort of yoga do you practice?

There are very intense styles that can definitely help you lose weight and others which are very meditative and great for flexibility but won't do much beyond that...

You'll need to choose something on the intense end of the spectrum if you want to burn calories...like Bikram which is a bit boring and too much of a routine for me, but works for some people...

I alternate days of cardio with days of strength training and yoga. One rest day. My daily exercise is around 1-2 hours (including cool down)

I exercise completely at home and outside, using my pool, my long steep driveway, and my access to workout videos online and a set of dumbbells.

I have reached my goal weight and gained muscle tone where there previously was nothing! I'm happy with my results. :)

I personally love yoga. It's helped me to be way more flexible and balanced. But I would (and do) mix it up.

This is just my workout plan; it's more time than some people have and its less intense than some people desire. It's just what works for me.

I hope you find a combination of exercise and healthy living to achieve the results you want.

I have lost about 5-10 lbs. A fellow student dropped so far 43 lbs. He attends class 5 days a week.

When I was doing yoga consistently I felt so much better! At that time I was working on maintaining and not losing weight.

What results a person gets from exercise depends on their fitness goals. As others have already noted, when it comes to losing weight, what matters most is what we eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit and heatlhy. In short, you can't outrun a bad diet with exercise.

I suspect the reason yoga instructors seem so slim is not so much a result of all the yoga they do, but a result of the LIFESTYLE they live. When a person takes yoga long enough, not only do they become mindful of how their body is in the space it occupies, but they become mindful of how they eat. Many people who practice yoga on a daily basis do tend to be mindful of what they eat.

When you have a chance you might look up ayurvedic eating. This is a way of eating some practioners of yoga engage in. it's not for everyone. But, it's something you might check out.

I do practice yoga. It's part of my healthy lifestyle that includes a balance of eating right, watching my portions and getting some regular exercise that includes some strength training. Depending on what your fitness goals are, you only have to strength train 1-3 times per week for overall good health.

Strength training should be a part of your healthy lifestyle along with any yoga you do. One is the compliment of the other. I love yoga, but I strength train too.

Yoga has so many forms---are you talking power yoga, or more the meditation type? If you're a beginner, a power yoga class could give you some gains in strength and endurance, but as with any form of exercise, your body will adapt at some point and you'll need to switch things up and/or turn up the intensity. I took a power yoga class years ago and I made some significant gains in strength and flexibility. By the end of class, I had to hold on to the handrail to go down the stairs because my legs were so weak and wobbly. I still wish I could find a class like it.

I agree with the others---weight loss comes from diet. A good combination of strength training and cardio will help you get fit and healthy AND keep muscle loss to a minimum as you lose weight.

My personal experience has been that a balance of strength training and cardio works best for me. I do a full body workout twice a week, spacing it out during the week. For my 3 sessions of cardio, I do one of all-out intervals, one of mid-range endurance, and one of a more "fun" cardio, such as a longer walk in the park or a workout dvd. I do 2 rest days a week, but then again I'm old

Yoga was great for improving my balance and breathing, which then helped me with my running and strength training. But in order of importance for my weight loss its been: diet, strength training, cardio, flexibility (yoga/pilates)

yoga brought me peace of mind and self-discipline, but it did not contribute directly to my weight loss. Changing my food--type and amount--did.

since weight loss is primarily diet, there is no particular type of exercise that will help you lose weight.

That said, out of cardio, strength or flexibility, ST by far has the most benefits.

I used to focus a lot of my exercise routines on cardio and some weights training but no where near as much time I put into cardio. I lost all my muscle tone and believe that your metabolism burns more calories the more muscle you have. But I was just curious if anyone lost weight just doing yoga, I can see how that could happen. And also, do you focus more on cardio, weight training, yoga or what. What routine gives you the best results.

Currently 167 pounds my goal is to weigh 135lbs.
