Have you checked out any of the strength training videos on our site? Those are another option that might hold your interest better.

Thanks. I was hoping that Pilates and Yoga could be a substitute. I enjoy them because I can find a lot of videos that give me variety. I get absolutely bored to death looking at a list of strength training exercises taped to a wall with everything that I should do and as a result I stop doing them very quickly. Oh well, I tried to find a option that would keep me motivated to do the strength training.

I have to agree with the coach... I love yoga, but it's not a replacement for strength training. It DOES improve balance, core strength, and flexibility (not to mention improving mental health!) but it's more of a complement than a replacement.

Pilates and yoga are great compliments to any workout routine, but I would not consider them to be a replacement for traditional strength training exercises that work your muscles to fatigue in 8-12 repetitions, 1-3 sets. So I would recommend a full-body strength program twice a week, and then you could add in some Pilates or yoga on other days if that interests you and your schedule allows for it.

Are Pilates and Yoga acceptable forms of exercise to do for the strength training? Or do I need to incorporate weights and do exercises such as squats, lunges, etc. If both Pilates and Yoga are acceptable, how many times a week and how long for each session would be good?

Looking for all ideas and suggestions
