I have just started my attempts to run (walk/run intervals). If I bike, it's after (of course it's either the stationary bike or spinning). My bike is currently at my parents house. There's a guy at my gym that runs and he uses the stationary bike after his runs. A group of about 4 women run a few days a week. They use the spinning bikes once a week in cross training.

It has a lot of resistance band training, squats, core training such as sit ups in different forms, pushups, plank, etc. I've never enjoyed strength training so much. She has four dvd's in the TurboFire set that are strength training alone then there are two stretch DVD's, four HIIT and four cardio. It's a good mix but I sub out the cardio dvd's at times to get in three-four runs a week.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I bike first then run. For me, biking is a good warm up.

I'm not sure about those videos as I've never seen them. What kind of strength exercises are in them?

Personally I think running is harder so I would run then bike.

I Strength train a lot. I just got done doing a 12 week TurboFire Challenge and just yesterday started the Hybrid 13 week scheudle for TruboFire, ChaLean Extreme and Brazil Butt Lift. On the days I run (about three times a week) I go 3.1 miles. I was wanting to add biking in on some of these days. :)

WHen I did it at the gym I would go 2-3 miles on the treadmill and then about 8 miles on the stationary bike but I know running and biking outside is tougher than being inside.

I usually mountain bike Sunday mornings with friends and then I play soccer Sunday evenings. I have 5-6 hours rest in between. Both of these activities are for fun I consider them "play". that I happen to get a great workout is secondary. I wouldn't normally bike and run on the same day though, it just happens to schedule out that way this summer. Just like I try to never do a lower body workout on the same day as a big run or bike ride.

What would your workout look like? Length/distances?

How long do you plan on each workout ? If you plan on doing a five mile run in the morning, the last thing I'd want to do is a 10 mile bike ride on top of that. If you're just interested in some cross training to avoid injury, alternate days. One day ride your bike. The next day run. And do make sure you get in a day for recovery.

Can you do two workouts in a day ? Yes, but it won't speed up your weight loss. One thing you may notice on days you do two workouts is that you'll be fatigued. If you give 100% of effort for your first workout, how much energy do you think you're going to have by the second ? So, if you do run for 5 miles how do you think you're going to feel when trying to ride for 10 miles ?

Also, if you increase your workouts to twice a day, expect to increase the amount of food you eat accordingly. food = energy and no food = no energy. Increase the amount you workout and you're hunger will increase. that's because your body is going to require more energy (food) to do both workouts.

My question, why two workouts in a day ? if you're only doing this once or maybe twice a week, that's not a problem as long as you are eating enough to sustain the workouts. If you're increasing your workouts to try to lose weight faster, it's not going to happen.

I'd say concentrate your efforts on one good workout. So, one day, have a good run. the next day, enjoy your bike ride. Can you do both in the same day ? Yes, but do expect to be fatigued for one of the workouts.

The order doesn't matter.

Your post doesn't mention strength training. But you are probably better off adding ST into your program, rather than trying to log more cardio time.

I want to get my bike out and use it with my runs a few times a week to get in more fitness minutes. Is it better to run first then bike or vice versa?
