It's most likely fluid and out stool you haven't passed. It'll go away :) to gain a single pound you have to consume 3500 excess calories so for 5lbs that's 17500 calories assuming my math is correct. I assume you haven't consumed that in 2 days :)

I gained five pounds over night too. It's nothing to worry about. It happens to all of us sooner or later.

Make sure you are drinking enough water and stay away from overly salty things.

What you're experiencing is perfectly normal. It's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope, it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

I can easily gain or lose as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of a shift in my water weight. There are lots of other reasons your body can retain water. If you're dehydrated, you'll retain water. If you eat salty foods, you'll retain water. if you exercise intensely, you're retain water ? Why ? Your muscle fibers soak up water like a sponge when they are worked intensely. this is what they are supposd to do. Your muscles will release any excess water they don't need once they've adapted to the new exercise routine.

If you were to weigh yourself before and after you drink a liter of water, you would notice your weight go up. Does this mean you gained fat ? No, but it does mean gained weight and that really is perfectly normal. You're going to see many ups and downs on the scale as you lose.

In short, you're normal.
