Interesting. I think that she was a normal/healthy weight to begin with, then dropped ten pounds or so of baby fat.

Something like this happened to my sister when she was about 15. She was never fat, but when she started doing distance running, she lost just a few pounds (maybe ten or so) and it changed the kind of body type she seemed to have. Her limbs got thinner and she looked more lank. Instead of getting a more "filled out" look like many people do around their early 20s, she looked more lithe. Running 15 miles a day can do that to you!

I have noticed that the type of activity that I am doing can change my general body shape a little bit. When I am dancing a lot, I hold myself differently too. People seem to perceive me as taller when I am doing a lot of dancing--maybe it is partly a question of posture, but it might have to do with the kind of muscles you are developing too.

It would be interesting to know what kind of fitness routine this actress had then versus now.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

The recent picture of her could be photoshopped. Or just taken at an angle to make the most of her shape. There are so many tricks that I wouldn't really put any stock in the images.

She can't change her height. She can absolutely lose weight which will change how tall she appears - even slightly overweight people tend to look shorter.

Hi Dragonchilde,

I understand that pictures can be misleading, but I actually grew up watching her on TV. And first season versus her interviews from now, she looks different. I don't know, maybe the videos are misleading too.

Ha, I'm a "square" by nature -- it may not be flattering, but it's me, what can you do about it. Pregnancy and nursing were the only thing that ever gained me any curves, then gaining weight gave me more, but not really the kind I wanted. Now I look exactly like I did in high school (except a bit more age-related sagging and still a bit less muscle mass): no boobs, no butt, no waist. Oh well, at least it's familiar! :)

Those pictures are misleading. They're both vastly different qualities, lighting, clothing; the younger one is less flattering and more bunchy.

I highly doubt her "body type" changed; you're looking at the classic difference you get when you put someone in front of a camera.

I experienced the same thing as DASHKATH after having children.

When I was 25 and under. I weighed 110-115 lbs at 5'2... my measurements were 35-25-35 (classic hour glass.... oh, how I miss that body and those curves!)

Then 2 pregnancies and 5 years later and some serious weight gain (reaching a peak of 180 lbs at the end of both pregnancies). I joined Spark (last summer) at 165 lbs. Lost the weight... got down to a low weight 107 lbs and my measurements were 33-26-33. Lost my butt, my boobs and my waist was thicker in proportion to the rest of me. I turned into a square. Not very flattering.

Anyways... since then I put weight back on over the last couple months while strength training heavily. I am now around 120 lbs and my measurements are 34.5 (hips)-27-34.5. My waist is actually smaller by an inch than the first time I hit 120 lbs (my hips/chest are the same). So I'm hoping with a slow loss down to the 110-115 lbs range again, I can maintain my hips and chest and lose an inch or two in my waist. We'll see... all experiments. Hoping my ST and the muscle I gained helps me to proportion out a bit.

But what I did learn, is that bulking and cutting does have a bit of effect on proportion. So my guess is that it has a lot to do with body fat percentage and muscle gain/loss as well.

I have no clue what body type I am. I seem to have qualities of both an mesomorph and ecto morph.... I think I'm and an ecto-meso. I'm not tall though, I'm short but have a petite frame. I gain muscle easily though like a meso but I'm definitely not long limbed. My legs give the "illusion" of being longer than they are because I have scrawny legs. I'm strong for my size but do well at endurance as well. I don't think many people are *true* mesos, ectos, endos anyways. Most people have qualities of more than one. So meh, I don't think it's all that important anyways.

I don't think it looks like her body type changed... she's just thinner. When you're thinner your limbs are going to *appear* longer.

Take your focus off the Marshmallow.

"Toning" is marketing muscles to women who are afraid if they pick up a barbell, they'll leave the gym looking like She-Hulk. If you don't want to get bulky, lift heavy!

I can bench Nicole Richie, eat more than she does in a day before noon, I have a good 20 lbs on her but could still wear her pants.

I think Bethany has lost weight, but also her pose in the second photo shows off her arms & legs which makes her look even more gangly and slim than she might otherwise normally look. It's hard to judge her proportions in that pose (unlike the first photo, where she is standing).

My Sparkpage is set to private, but I'm open to SparkMail!

I look significantly different than I did 10 years ago ( before I had kids). Age and carrying babies definitely changes your body. My changes have been for the better in some ways and not so great in others. It's just the way it is.

I looked at the photos and agree with you that she "seems" to look longer-limbed. But she's obviously lost quite a bit of weight, and that can make a difference in the illusion.

The Endomorph, Mesomorph, Ectomorph system and William Herbert Sheldon hypothesis have pretty much been discredited. Look up the bizarre story of where it came from (and the future political leaders who had their photographs taken...in a rather shocking fashion). The types are unfortunately based on Mr. Sheldon's personal ideas about which humans are most worthwhile and not on science. It is disappointing to think that somewhere here on SP there's an article advocating their relevancy.

Hello all,

I didn't know where to post this, but I thought here would be most apt.

I read an article on sparkpeople about body types. Here: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=1042&page=3.

According to this, I'm an endomorph. Also, according to this article, one cannot 'switch' from one body type to another even if we lose weight.

But, I'm also confused.

One of my favorite actresses, was an actress I grew up with, Bethany Joy Lenz of One Tree Hill. I started watching the show when I was 13 and grew up with it (I'm 22 now.).

Bethany in the first season of one tree hill, seemed a lot shorter in body type. I'm assuming she's been the same height for the past ten years considering she was already 22 when she did the first season, and usually around that time you stop growing in height.

But...in current pictures, after one tree hill, her limbs look much longer. Her arms and her legs. And she looks slimmer than she was when she was 22. She wasn't fat at 22. She just seemed curvier, for lack of a better term.

So, I guess what I'm asking is, how is it possible that she could go from stocky/shorter to longer limbs and slim?

I know part of it is probably the clothes she wore, because they tried to dress her down during season one, but I think part of it had to do with her own body.

Here are before and after pics:

P..S: Bethany had a baby at 30. Oh and I'm female if anyone's confused by my unisex name.

Thanks!

Jess
