If you overdo your workout routine (2 hours a day is a lot to start out with) you're going to burn out and quit. Take it slow and work your way up. Strength training requires a rest period to give your muscles a chance to recover. If you want to go to the gym every day alternate by doing cardio one day, then strength another, or work different sets of muscles. And don't forget to take a day here and there to let your body rest.

That's not a common effect of exercising. Another vote for a stomach bug or a bad meal. Remember to stay hydrated, and if it doesn't ease up visit your doctor.

On a tangent, be sure to let your body rest with exercise. 2 days in a row is generally not advisable for just starting out (and never for strength training - muscles need 48 hours+ to recover), and 2 hours a day is a long time. If you're able to exercise for 2 hours straight, up the intensity and try to fatigue yourself faster. I cap out at about an hour each time I go to the gym, lifting as heavy as I can and cranking up the resistance on whatever cardio machine. Working out longer and easier isn't doing yourself any favors.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

Ya, You are probably right. I had some greasy food this weekend that maybe didnt sit so well. I think i have this idea that to lose weight i have to go to the gym 7 days per week and thats probably too much. Thanks

I'm betting it's really not from your exercise routine but from something you ate. That said, if you're JUST starting out a workout regimen, you may want to slow it down and give your body ample time to recover from your workouts (when you're feeling better) and not go to the gym 2 days in a row. Overdoing it will create more harm than good.

That's not what's supposed to happen when you start working out. Are you sure you haven't picked up some kind of stomach bug?

Hi everyone, I am hoping you can help me. I started working out at the gym monday and worked out 2 hours both days in a row. Eliptical and strength training. Yesterday while at the gym, I began to have stomach cramps and diarrhea. Since then I cannot count the number of times I have gone but it continues today. Cramps and diarrhea. Is this common with starting a workout regimen when you are not used to it? What can I do to get rid of this feeling and be able to keep exercising. I am not going to work out today because I do not want to over do it,. Thanks
