As you have probably figured out, you sure can! Most 5ks are walker friendly. We have some in my area that are K9 5ks that are dog friendly, in addition to the fun runs like the Color Run. In my running experience, I know people who have walked distances up half marathons.

Many of the 5ks I've done over the years had a catagory for walkers. Check your area for charity walks. Boston has the Walk for Hunger in May. that's 20 miles, but there are also walks for diabetes, cancer, AIDs, etc through out the summer. a very famous charity walk is the Avon Breast Cancer two day walk.

So, there really are lots of different options for walkers.

I can't imagine any 5K races not allowing a walking category. Try a "novelty" race like the Glo Run or the Colour Run, they're a lot more laid back. They want people to be more active, not just runners.

Yes, you should be able to do walk all/most 5ks. At least in my area there are always people walking. Heck, I've walked before!

I know that the Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5k allows people to walk. Not sure if they have one in your area, but it will be coming up in October if so.

Just check if they have a maximum or cutoff time.

Pretty much all 5Ks allow walkers. Some longer distance races (HM/marathon) do not have a category for walkers.

A lot of 5k events allow walkers, but be sure to check with the race before signing up because not all do (this info is usually on their website).
