A general rule of thumb is that a 150 lb person burns about 5 calories per flight of stairs.

Or depending on your speed, 10-20 calories per minute. This is actually pretty intense exercise - it's just that most people don't climb stairs for all that long.

To give you a ball park a 150 lb person would burn 45 cals for 5 mins of climbing stairs.

does anyone have a ball park figure on what they think the calorie burn is on using stairs instead of an elevator. the fitness tracker only has step ups. it only comes back with about 18 cals. can this be right???
