KJEANNE This is a new doctor since my old one moved to Nebraska and the replacement was no good. She didn't consider any of my health problems, just blamed everything on weight and smoking. She was non-responsive to questions and requests for help.

The new doctor is at least considering my health conditions and attempting to put together a team of doctors to ensure my success. I don't like her rules sometimes, but at least she is considering the whole picture, not just that I am overweight.

Update. I have to go next week for an Echo-cardiogram and the week after I go for a treadmill stress test. I CAN do light exercises. I am thinking of swimming, walking and using Wii Fit. Any suggestions for anything else so that I can change up my routine a little are always welcome.

MissRuth that is awesome. You are my hero for the day. I have MS and sometimes my body just says NO. Some times you just have to deal with that gets tossed at you.

Maybe something you could do, Mommyre, is research. When I have really bad days that is something that I can do to make myself feel productive even if I can't be mobile. Choose 3 or 4 topics you'd like to know more about. It can be about anything that interests you like interesting activities you can do with your son while on rest, or a place, a person. By the time you've done some good research on those 3 or 4 things, you'll be amazed at how much time has gone by, the new conversations you can have, and how many cool new things you've learned.

My happy thoughts are headed to you. Good luck.

Why do we try so hard to be like everyone else, when we were born to be unique?

I am really trying to be patient, but it is not one of my strengths. I am being as good as I can. I just feel so lazy!

You might consider some gentle yoga for relaxation. That will keep you stretched a bit, but will not raise your heartrate if you go very slow and gentle. You might want to call your dr fist and ask if that is acceptable.

Blessings,

Well. I don't reckon it would do much good to try to improve your health through exercise, but give yourself a heart attack or something in the process. I also don't reckon that you'll be told "no exercise....FOREVER". We're talking a couple weeks here.

Years ago when my kids were little, my 2 year old was whining about something he wanted, and he wanted it NOW. And it struck me, that *I* sometimes could whine exactly like that-- I want what I want, and I want it NOW. Shoot, y'all. I'm supposed to be a mature responsible adult here, and that means sometimes I don't get what I want, right this very now. Sometimes I'm sick or injured and can't exercise. Sometimes the only food choices available aren't so healthy. Sometimes the internet's down and I can't get on Spark. So I just do the best I can, and keep telling myself-- well it won't be like this FOREVER. It's only temporary and once I DO get what I want, I'll appreciate it more.

No means no!

I totally understand where you are coming from though. I've had major surgery twice since I started working on weight loss and I just about had to tie myself down to keep from getting into the pool too early. I went to the gym during one of these recoveries to show my father how to do some exercises and I almost cried when I heard my Zumba group doing a favorite bachata song.

It's hard...but NO.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

Thanks for the suggestion. I did ask during the visit. She said "no exercise until you see the cardiologist." I pleaded. Just a few laps swimming, slow walking, something? She said no. I did get her to agree to let me play games in the pool with my son. That is the extent. She doesn't even want me to play with him out of the water. emoticon I just wish I could move a little. I do park a little further away at school just to get a few extra steps into my day.

I second the advice to call your doctor for clarification. If he really means no exercise, then focus on healthy eating, as the others have suggested, because it really does have a bigger impact on weight loss than exercise anyway. I can only imagine how frustrating being told not to exercise must be when you've been doing so well, but being out of commission for a while is way better than hurting yourself for the long run. emoticon

Perhaps you could call your doctor to clarify what he/she meant by "no exercise"...do they include walking in this? Or were they referring to higher intensity exercise?

The reason I ask is that when my mother was very ill, she used to tell me her doctor had said things like this, and when I personally spoke to the doctor to clarify, the answer was generally somewhat less black and white than what my mum had heard...

If you voice the same concerns you have here straight to the doctor, the answer will be much easier than relying on third hand advice and second guessing professional opinion...

Hope all goes well...

The previous posters have given you great advice. Please listen to doctor's orders and don't try to exercise.

The best thing you can do for your health right now is to listen to your doctor. If he has said not to exercise, there is a reason he has said that.

For most people, weight loss is 80% nutrition and just 20% exercise anyway.

Right now just find your calm and inner peace. Don't stress over exercise, eating, not eating or your health. Think of peaceful and happy thoughts about how healthy you'll be. Once you've got the go ahead from your doctor your mind and heart will be ready. Best wishes to you. emoticon

I think you should listen to your doctor! No exercise RIGHT NOW. After treatment that could change. Just hang on!

I am currently unable to exercise per doctor's orders. I have Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia and my doctor wants me to speak with the cardiologist first. I have an appointment in a couple of weeks, but want to do SOMETHING now. Is there an alternative activity that won't raise my heart rate too much or stress my heart that I can do in the meantime? I am eating better, but am frustrated too! I really want to improve my health. I need to lose weight, but figure that eating healthier and exercising more will cause the weight loss, but the biggest effect will be improved health.
