Like everyone else has said, 1 week is nothing, so don't worry...

You could also be losing fat and building muscle, which is a great thing...let us know how thing are over the coming weeks...!

I had a period of 2 weeks where I was exercising and eating right and gained over 3 lbs. However over the course of 4 months I've lost over 30 lbs. Do not base success or failure on the scales, especially in the short term.

He who has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it!

to be honest I would not worry about what the scales say for 1 week. Keep plugging along and you will get there. Worry and stress can cause weight gain so watch that.

Letaylor. BMI is a joke, dont worry about what BMI says, at 43, 6"1 and 233 lbs, a 33 inch waist I am considered obese by BMI guidelines. You should stay with your current excercise program and daily calorie intake for atleast 3 weeks, If you havent averaged losing 1lb per week after that time period reduce your daily calories by 100 per day for the next 3 weeks. And then adjust as needed from there. You need to find out how many calories per day that YOU need, not the average person ( because everyone is different when it comes to weight loss/gain etc) to maintain your current weight and once you find out what that magic number is losing weight will become easy. : )

Working out intensely doesn't necessarily hinder your weight loss, but overtraining absolutely can.

Overtraining has more side effects than just slower weight loss; it can increase injury. Check out that article from SP, it contains lots of tips for identifying, troubleshooting, and balancing your workouts.

If it's a period of a week, it may be too soon to expect a loss. When you weighed in, you may have retained water, still had food digesting - any number of things that would make the scale not cooperate. It also looks like you only have about 4 pounds to lose - which means a very small potential fat loss which could easily be masked by water.

Like others said, all you can do is be patient, and keep doing all the right things. If seeing the number on the scale bums you out - put the scale away and focus on the other successes.

Do something everyday that your future self will thank you for.

See the thing is that I'm becoming "calorie confused." I tracked my calories on my sparkpage, but still no loss. I've been trying to stay hydrated. Perhaps it is a water retention thing. How do I fix that? I hate that my BMI is currently stating that I'm overweight.

Working out too much will not negatively effect your weight loss but not eating enough calories on daily basis over an extended period of time will slow your metabolism.

You are probably retaining water. Give it some time.

But I do think you can work out too much, especially if you aren't eating enough.

It is what it is....

The body can naturally fluctuate by several pounds from day to day, due mainly to changes in hydration levels.

So it is not worth paying too much attention to any one weigh-in - look instead at the longer term trend.

Also, it is a common response to starting/increasing your workout for your muscles to retain water. This can lead to little change (or even an increase) in the scale even as you are burning fat.

However, muscle and water are considerably denser than fat, and typically this shows up as inches lost, even if the scale is being unco-operative. The tape is actually a much better means of tracking your progress than the scale.

I have been working out for a while, but using the monitor has really helped me up my intensity. It's just disheartening to see no changes on the scale after a week of such hard work.

Give it time. If you are new to this it can take your body a while to adjust. If you have been doing this a while, it might be time to change up your workout. I go weeks without loosing anything, but then I will change something small and a pound or 2 will just disappear.

I am always above the target heart rate when I work out. Just means you are burning your calories a bit quicker.

I've been using a polar personal trainer and have realized that I often work out at high intensities. I was really diligent about exercise and tracking my diet last week, but I didn't lose any weight on my weigh-in this morning. It's really bumming me out! Any helpful tips?
