The general advice is to add no more than 10% to your distance each week, to give your body the chance to adapt to the new demands you are making.

So 7 weeks should be fine for you to do transition to a 10K.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I did my first 5k race in April and loved it. I have my choice of signing up for.another 5k or a 10k in early September. I regularly do 5k. Today I did 4 miles and so far I am not sore (we will see if I can get out of bed tomorrow).

Is it reasonable to think I could do a 10k in early September? Or is that increasing distance too quickly?

First 5k -April 2013
First 10k - Sept 2013

Initial goal weight reached Dec 10, 2013 (80 pounds lost)
90 pounds lost as of Feb 18, 2014.
