Thank you for the kind words, advice, and encouragement. I am starting to get a little better already! The pain is not half as bad and the swelling is gone, so I am hoping to be on a fast road to recovery. Hubby has been working night and day to save up the money for a new car, and he just about has enough. I can't wait to get back into the gym! :)

So sorry to hear about your situation. I know what it is like to have to decide if it is really worth the cost to go to the doctor. It is a tough situation to be in.

Do you have access to a stationary bike? That might be a good option for you depending on what kind of movements trigger your pain. Also swimming might be a great alternative.

God bless.

Jen said it best. When you are able to do it without pain, you could do some seated exercises.

Resting is good, but not too much of it. Doctor would be able to help with this...

See if you can go to a chiropractor. A good one will also recommend a good doctor (specialist). My husband was nearly incapacitated from a pinched nerve and degenerative disc disease, though we didn't know what it was. I took him to a very good chiropractor, and the chiropractor told us he would do what he could, but that it could be something that he can't handle (degenerative disc disease that needs surgery) and recommended some specialists. We ended up choosing one of them and he is doing great.

Regardless, I know you don't have insurance, but see if you can get into a chiro. They could really help. THEN, see if you have a hospital that takes or will allow financial aid applications. We have one here, and a friend of mine that needed surgery (major surgery, she had a fibroid tumor the size of a football in her stomach) and they waived over half of her bill.

The good thing is that when it comes to weight loss, the majority of your progress will come from diet, not exercise. So even if you can't exercise at all right now, you can still stay on track if you're carefully tracking the food you're eating and staying in your recommended calorie and nutrient ranges.

Hope that helps! Hang in there!

Okay so long story short, my fiance' and I were on our way home from our son's swim class with our 8 month old daughter, and he didn't see a car coming when he went to make his turn cross the intersection. Now my car is totaled, I have neck and back spasms and a lump with swelling on my lower back. If I walk for a period or even just stand, my lower back starts to swell up again. The doctors gave me pain meds and sent me on my way. I am not one for taking pain medicine, but this pain gets so bad that I throw up. I do not have any type of medical insurance and the hospitals say they can't do anything that I need to go see a specialist. I have already gained 3 pounds since June 24th, and I am sure I have lost muscle weight so it is more like 6+ pounds. I am trying to stay on track with my diet, but for me it is so hard since exercise goes hand in hand with my diet for me. I am getting depressed because I want to work out, I know it makes me feel better, but I really just can't. Does anyone have any experience with any of this? Please don't just say go to a doctor because I already know I need to do that, I just don't have the money to, so that is out of the question for now. Thanks for any other advice.
