I called my Doctor and spoke with the nurse. She told me that what I explained to her about pushing like you are going to have a bowel movement while your heart is racing really fast is a technique for lowering your heart rate. She gave me correct terminology but I couldn't really hear. It did work for me, yet she explained how that technique really lowers the heart rate and I don't want to go that low if I am trying to work out for weight loss. She said yes, my heart rate will race because I have not been exercising for that long. And that is the goal. I asked her about a heart rate monitor. She also said well darn now I can't remember, but explained there are different ones for different goals. Example training for a run, or jogging, etc. versus the other kinds. But with the heart rate monitors, I'm not really sure I grasp that concept. I did purchase one on Amazon and it appeared to be compatible with how I want to use it. It was a Polar. T4 or T7? Not quite sure to be honest. But anyway.... give that technique a quick try. it does work. Jen
I believe it is called the valsalva maneuver; I just online searched it.
