When I first started riding bikes after many years of not riding I had very shaky legs when I got off. Take it slow and do what you can. Add time spent on the bike daily. I don't ride like I would like to do but when I do I really enjoy.

Start slow and small distances. When I started biking again after years and years of not biking, I was exhausted after a tiny distance. Due to thinking I could cycle at the same sort of speed as in my teens I expect. Advice given to me on here was bike slower. It worked lol. It will probably be a very few trips before you're able to put your foot down and go further :)

If it's traffic that worries you, then maybe you have an adult cycling-confidence type class nearby?

That's great! I feel less intimidated on bike when I'm in an area with no or very few cars. I used to put my bike in the car and travel to the nearest park with biking trails when I was first getting back into biking. Hopefully you have something like that somewhat close.

There are many community areas that have biking classes!

If you want to try on your own, just make sure you're on flat land at first!

I am having a second hand hybrid/comfort bike fixed up so I can start to ride again. I am 205 pounds and 56 years old. I live in a very busy and hilly area. Any ideas for starting out again? emoticon
